(1.) The making, assessing, and levying of a county, [police],

or other rate, and the application and expenditure thereof; (2.) The management of the county property;

(8.) The borrowing of money;

(4.) The auditing, settling, and allowing of accounts of the county

treasurer;

(4.) The provision, maintenance, enlargement, and other dealings

with shire halls, county halls, and judges lodgings;

(6.) The provision, maintenance, and management of lock-ups, court houses, justices rooms, and [police stations], and of all other buildings, and works with the cost of which the county stock or county rate, or any rates leviable or moneys adminis- tered by the quarter sessions are by law chargeable at the date of the passing of this Act;

(7.) The licensing of houses for music or for dancing, or slaughter-

houses, and of horse racing.

[qu. (8.) The raising, management, and maintenance of the county

police.

(9.) The provision, enlargement, maintenance, and visitation of

and other dealing with asylums for pauper lunatics; (10.) The establishment and maintenance of and the contribution

to reformatory and industrial schools;

(11.) The provision, maintenance, and management of bridges and roads, the formation, alteration, dissolution of or otherwise dealing with highway districts, the exercise of any authority which is, by the Highways and Locomotives Amendment Act, 1876, as amended by this Act, vested in the county authority in relation to highways, the licensing of locomotives and byelaws respecting highways and locomotives, and other matters in the said Act mentioned;
