Programme for Laying out.

7. The following will be the detailed programme of laying:- Assuming that the order to lay is received early enough to allow of five hours' daylight work on that day, the following will be the general scheme :

(1.) The "Solent," with Lieutenant Kelsall, will lay out the seven lines of 500-lb. buoyant mines at Lyemun (No. IV M.F.). This will take about four and a-half to âve hours. She will have to make two trips.

She will take all her own shore parties and one J.B. boat.

"Solent," 2nd Trip.-The remaining lines will be connected up on shore during her absence, and two slung and the rest put on board on her return.

Whilst this is being carried out, the "Miner" and "Megohm" will be working in III and II Mine-fields thus:-

Miner," 1st Trip. The "Miner," with Lieutenant Molesworth, will at once proceed to Belcher's with the alignment, test-room, and observing station parties, and with the remaining J.B. boats, also test-room party for Stone- cutter's (with four alignment flags) if they cannot go over by Army Service Corps or other launch, and if that referred to in paragraph 5 (2) has not been obtainable.

Land parties leave J.B. boats at Belcher's Pier, go on to Green Island to put up reference flag, thence to Stonecutter's if required, and return.

Whilst the "Miner" is waiting at Submarine Mining Pier for the above parties to collect their stores, she will embark as many J.B. buoys and sinkers as she can.

<

Megohm."―The "Megohm," towed by the hired launch mentioned in paragraph 5 (1), and manned by 20 native boatmen (hired), one officer (Lieu- tenant Thompson), and the Chinese coxswain of the "Solent," will go to Belcher's and lay out VII and VIII main cables (alignments first wanted, 2b, 4a, 4b), the J.B. boat parties assisting to join up ends at pier.

She will then go to Stonecutter's and lay out III, IV A, IV в, V, main cables (alignments 4a, 46), then No. VI at Belcher's, and then I and II at North Stonecutter's.

She will lay her own J.B. buoys, which are stored on board, as she arrives at the position of the outer end of each cable.

She will then be brought back to the Submarine Mining Pier.

Miner," 2nd Trip.-The "Miner," on her return from her first trip, will embark J.B. buoys and group cables and boxes for BB, CC, DD, HH, JJ, KK, and then lay them out (alignments Belcher's 2b, 6b, 6c).
