"Miner," 4th Trip.-Y, Z, AA, EE, FF, GG. Group cables, J.B. buoys and boxes.

"Solent," 3rd and 4th Trips.-When "Solent" has finished No. IV M.F., she will sling and lay out the lines of mines in No. III M.F. in two trips (first trip, alignments 5b, emergency, la, 1b, and 2b; second trip, 5a, 5b, 5c).

"Solent" and "Miner," Trips as required.The "Solent" and "Miner ” will, then lay out the E.C. groups in III and II M.F.'s, in the following order:

BB, CC, DD, HH, JJ, KK, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z, AA, EE, FF, GG.

The trips cannot be laid down exactly, but it will be found that the "Solent" with four groups, and "Miner" with two (or perhaps three), will be most convenient.

Nos. I and V MF.'s will then be laid out. "Miner" laying group cables and J.B. buoys, and "Solent" mines.

Shore Parties. The movements of the laying-out boats will necessarily govern the work of the shore parties. Generally the following will be the

order :-

Case Store and Connecting-up Parties.

1st. Lines of mines, Lyemun. No. IV M.F.

2nd.

Belcher's. No. III M.F.

3rd. BB, CC, DD, HH, JJ, KK groups.

4th. No. II M.F.

5th. Y, Z, AA, EE, FF, GG.

7th. No. V M.F.

Cable Parties.

1. No. IV M.F. cables.

2. BB, CC, DD, HH, JJ, KK group cables.

3. Lines of mines. No. III M.F. cables.

4. No. II M.F. group cables.

5. BB, CC, DD. HH, JJ, KK mine cables.

6. Y, Z, AA, EE, FF, GG group cables.

7. No. II M.F. mine cables.

8. Y, Z, AA, EE, FF, GG mine cables.

9. No. I M.F'. cables.

10. No. V M.Ê. cables.

Priming.-Fitting-room parties will prime in the order of the mines

required.

S. Maintenance of Mine-fields.-On completion of the laying out of the mines, the officers and men of the company will go to their appointed stations according to the annexed Table (B) (Schedule X), and the observing stations, electric lights, and engines will be manned.

9. The Divisional Officer Submarine Mining will act as Staff Officer for Submarine Mining; he will visit the various posts as may be necessary, and will be responsible for all arrangements being complete and in working order.

In case of an attack, he will proceed at once to the point where his services will be most required.

10. The mines will only be made active on the orders of the Major- General, after obtaining the concurrence of the Senior Naval Officer.

11. With a view to insure in time of war-

(1.) The safe entry of friendly vessels with the least possible delay; (2.) The exclusion of hostile vessels attempting to enter either by force or stratagem;

(3.) The regular and orderly mangement of traffic at a time when it is liable to congestion ;

the Regulations contained in Schedule XI have been framed, and will be put in force when hostilities are threatening, at the discretion of the Senior Naval and Military Officers.
