Mr. Wong Po Lim Mr. Wong Po Lim, (黄保廉) aged 38, belongs to the Chung-shan District, Kwang- tung Province. He received his education at the Lingnan Middle School, Canton: Diocesan Boy's School, Hongkong; and finally graduated from the Shanghai University. After serving in the Canton-Sham-shui Railway as Accountant for a certain period, he went to America for advanced study in Business Management. On return to China, he organized the Wah Yick Can Manufacturing and Printing Co., which was combined to the China Can Co., Ltd. in 1934; and Mr. Wong was appointed Work Managing and Chief Accountant of the company. Mr. Wong is a learned businessman; workmen under him are well treated and benefited by his scientific method of management.
Mr. Wong is a zealous social worker. He is specially interested in air-raid precautions works, holding the post of District Air Raid Precautions Warden of Shaukiwan. He had served as Treasurer of the Shanghai University Aluminium Association, Hongkong Branch.
Mr. O. W. Luke, J. P.
Mr. Luke (陸雲), a native of Kwangtung Province, was born in 1882.
He was born in a well-to-do
family giving him thorough education. He procured his early studies in the Phui Ying School and later he
enrolled in the Queen's College, where he left in 1900.
He started his commercial career in 1903 in the New Zealand Insurance Co., Ltd., Yokohama Branch. He did not remain there long, a few years later he returned to Hongkong and became compradore of the same company. For thirty-three years he was employed under the same firm, and his experience, conscious- ness and ability were valuable assets to the company. His honesty and innate courtesy endear him to all his
business associates and friends.
He had been member of the Financial Committee of the St. John's Ambulance and of many other local educational institutions and Chairman of the South China Athletic Association for a number of years. He was appointed Justice of the Peace in 1936, and Member of the Committee of Po Leung Kuk in 1937.
Mr. Luke has many children. His eldest daughter is a graduate of the Yenking University and Lingnan University, advancing her studies in the Oregan University, and Merril-Palmer School, Detroit, U.S.A.
His son Mr. Luke Sze Hei is now helping him in business and his second son Mr. Luke Sze Sing is now continuing his studies at the Lingnam University, all with his other daughters, Lai Sang, Lai Ngo, and Lai Ping make up a happy family.

Mr. Li Kwok Ying Mr. Li Kwok Ying,(李國英) aged 28, ct Sunwui District, Kwangtung Province, son of Mr. Li Chor Sun, J.P., Chairman of Po Leung Kwok, and also Honorary Secretary of China Athletic Association, and member of the Committee of Hongkong Land Owners and member of the Sunwui Chamber of Commerce, is now Manager of Wing Nam Watch Co., and also Manager of Chor Sun Loan and Mortgage Co., Ltd., Treasurer of Kung Yick Company, shareholder of the Chung Wah Dispensary, and Luen On Insurance Co., and Committee mem- ber of Chinese Chamber of Commerce. He holds the rank of Section Captain of St. John's Ambulance Brigade, Mongkok and Yaumati section, and Treasurer of Wanchai Children Playground. He is highly esteemed in social circles and command great respect from all members of the community both European and Chinese. Being of an enegertic and far-sighted nature he has succeeded in almost anything he has come into contact and another great help to him is his kind and understanding personality. At such a young age he has made his

Mr. Tam Chun
Mr. Tam Chun, (進) of Toishan District, Kwangtung, is now 63 years of age. At the age of 12 he came to Hongkong and became attached to a mechanical firm. Being hardworking, he
attracted the attention of his superiors. In 1911 he established the Tam Kung Wo Engineering Co., which became a very famous concern. He is a very patriotic person, being the first to contri- bute to the Chungking Government for war relief purposes, and at one occasion sent his son to Canton to help the Y.M.C.A. in their rescue work amongst the war wounded. Further he pre-
sented two cranes to the Government for helping them in bombed areas. He subscribed HK. $13,000.00 on a profit he made in sale of two buildings, to the Chinese Government. He bought
more than $20,000.00 of Salvation Bonds and helped the Government with subscription from friends to the extend of more than $330,000.00. He contributes towards the upkeep of more than 300 orphans. He subscribed generously to the Canton University. He also established in his village a free school. Although at an old age he is always energetic and hardworking. He

Mr. Lee Iu Cheung came from Siu Lam in Chung Shan District, Kwangtung Province. He is the son of the late Mr. Lee Iu Cheung, (李耀祥 ) was born in Hongkong in the year 1896. His fefathers
well-known contractor, Mr. Lee Pui Kee.
In the year 1917, he was graduated in the Hongkong University in the engineering with the degree of B.Sc. (second class honour). Two years later he went to the United States and joined the graduate school, Cornell University, doing research works in River Conservancy and Sanitary Engineering. Upon his return in 1921 to this Colony, he was immediately invited to
teach Hydraulic engineering in his alma mater.
Mr. Lee's activities in the public duties may be summarized as follows: 1925: Chairman of the Committee of the Street Guard of Willington Street. 1926-27: Director of the Board of Directors of Kwong Wah Hospital.
1928: Member of the Committee of the Po Leung Kuk.
1929: Director of the Board of Directors, Tung Wah Hospital.
1940: Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. Member of the Medical Committee T.W.H. Member of the General Chinese Charities Fund Member of the Hongkong Government Camp Committee. Member of the Temple Committee.

Wong Sik Kay, (黃錫) aged 57, born in Nam Hol District,
an old student of Queen's College, is well educated both in English and Chinese. He commenced his business career thirty-nine years ago and has become a prominent merchant in Hongkong. His success is undoubtedly due to his hard working, intellegence, and faithfulness.
In managing his business he is energetic and far-seeing, while to friends and relatives he is sincere and amiable. Generally speaking, he is virtuous and gentle and has gained the respect and admiration of all who know him.
Mr. Wong was first appointed compradore of Pacific Mail, Apcar Line, one of the outstanding shipping Companies in Hongkong at that time. He next became the Compradore of Anderson Meyer & Co., an electric machinery and engineering firm, until 1926 when he joined Jebsen & Co. as chief Compradore. It is in thia present post that he has best shown his gifted talents. He has lined up for the firm extensive business con- nections between Hongkong and China, particularly Canton, Amoy, Swatow, and Kwangsi. With his fine experience and untiring effort he contributed considerably to the enterprise of the company in its imports, exports, fertilizer and shipping business.
Besides his business activities, Mr. Wong also takes interest in philanthropic and social work. He has been on the Committee of Tung Wah, Tung Wah Eastern, and Kwong Wah Hospitals for two terms, during which time he has done his utmost for the benefit of the sick and the poor and for the improvement of these hospitals. He has also been a committee member of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Hongkong, for three terms, and chairman of the Hongkong Compradores Association.
Mr. Wong has many sons and daughters. His eldest son,Mr. Wong Yee Ma, B.sc., of Civil Engineering. Hongkong University, is now assisting him during his spare time in architectural designing work. His second son Mr. Wong Chin Wah is now a medical student in the University of Hongkong. He has declined the Government Scholarship won in the Matriculation Examination 1939 in order to devote himself to medical studies. Mr. Wong Hoo Wah, the third son, is now on the staff of the Imports Dept. of Jebsen & Co. It is indeed a comfort for the father to see each of his sons striving independently in the same community from which he himself has emerged successfully.

Mr. Fong Tse Yan,一方子仁一of Tung Koon district is at present 49 years of age. He is the Manager of the Wah Kheong Rubber Factory. He comes from a reputed family, and he has in him all the good altitudes of his father and ancestors. of 18 he joined his father the late Mr. Fong Hok Lai in the mats and At the age malting business. He gained good experience thereby. In 1936 he founded the above factory, with all the latest methods and ma- chinery for the manufacturing rubber goods. Being of a very patriotic nature, he has helped greatly within his capacity the cause of the Centrol Government in the Resistant War and has con- tributed large sums of money in purchasing Chinese National
Salvation Bonds.

Yuk Wan,(劉毓芸) was born in the Sun-wui District, came to Hong Kong at the age of sixteen, and entered the Queen's College. He was a very clever and studious lad and always at the top of the class. He joined the staff of Messrs. Percy Smith, Seth & Fleming after his graduation, and in night time served as Translator of the "Chinese Mail". He was invited and accepted as Manager of the Hong Nin Life Insurance Co., Ltd., in 1913; later, he was appointed Sub-Manager of the Hong Nin Fire Insurance Co., Ltd., and Chief-Accountant of the Hong Nin Savings Bank.
He is the first Chinese Auditór authorized by the Hong Kong Government. Mr. Lau is a kind-hearted gentleman and a zealous worker for charitable and public welfares. He had served as Director of the Tung Wah Hospital, Director of the Po Leung Kuk, Member of the Committee of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Four Dis- tricts Chamber of Commerce, Manager of the Sun-wui Chamber of Commerce, President of the Chung Shing Benevolent Society, President of the Sheung Yip Tung Cha Association, Vice- President of the Confucian Association and President of the Chinese Auditors' Association.
Since China's Resistant War Broke-out he has worked tirelessly to promote funds for war relief; he is the Member of the War Relief Committees of the Chinese Chamber of Com- merce and the Sun-wui Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Kong Fulson (Kong Pho Sun), (鄺甫) of Toishan District, Kwangtung, aged 69,
emigrated to Singapore at his early age and started business there. After 7 years in Singapore he went to Australia, and then returned to Hongkong as representative of Torrenside Woollen Mills, South Australia. After 30 years in Australia. Being a straight-forward businessman he is admired by all his associates. In 1927 he joined the Sincere Insurance Co., Ltd., but he resigned in 1938 on account of ill health. Later, he retired from public life. He is a proud father of a fine son, Mr. Kong Lo Yue, who is now studying at Lingnan University.

born in the Toi-shan District, Kwangtung Province, fifty-two years ago.
He was educated in his native village till he was eighteen years old and then he came to Hongkong to practice business. Finding it is difficult to look for a high prospect in this complicate society without a thorough education, he proceeded to Shanghai in 1900 and continued his studies in the Nanyang College (now University of Communication). He returned to Kwangtung in the following year and entered the Ling Nan College, Canton. Four years later, when he left the college, he came to the Colony again and mingled himself in the commercial sphere. He transacted imports and ex- ports and concurrently dealing in exchange business. For five years he was in the position until he was chosen by the Sze Yap Steamship Co., to investigate navigation in the Western countries. A year and a month later, Mr. Chan returned to the Colony and with the cooperation of Mr. Lee Yok Tong, one of the local prominent merchants, he established the Shanghai Fire & Marine Insurance Co., Ltd., where he holds the position of manager up to the present time.
In 1924, Mr. Chan organized the Luk Hoi Tung Co., Ltd., and after its inauguration, he established the following business in successive order: The Luk Hoi Tung Life Assurance Co., Ltd., The Luk Hoi Tung Hotel and Restaurant; The Luk Hoi Tung Dispensary; The Luk Kwok Hotel and the Nathan Hotel.

Besides the above mentioned, Mr. Chan has been in the capacity of either director or committee of the following organizations: The China Navigation Co., Ltd., (defuncted); The Bank of Canton, Ltd; The Sun Ning Railway Co.; The Sze Yap Steamship Co.; The Ping On Co.; The Tung Wah Hospital; The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Hongkong; The Sze Yap Commercial and Industrial Association; The Toishian Chamber of Commerce, Hongkong; and the Chinese Y. M. C. A., Hongkong. At present, he is director of the Ling Nan University, Canton, and its branch school in Hongkong; the Mui Fong College and the Sze Nan College,
He has contributed not less than seven thousand dollars to assist the
Mr. Chan is an enthusiastic nationalist.
Chinese revolution, and large amount has been contributed by him to accomplish philantropic and charibable affairs. He is so pupular that he has been appointed counsellor by the Kwangtung Government and the Kwangsi Government.
Married when he was sixteen, Mr. Chan has nine children. All of them have obtained good education, and his eldest son is at present practising business in Hongkong.

Mr. P. H. Sin,(冼秉熹) is one of the leading local Chinese Solicitors. He is the

youngest son of the late Mr. Sin Hon-Ting, the noted pioneer of West River Shipping in the early nineties. His late father had the foresight to organize the West River Line before Wuchow and Samshui were declared Treaty Ports. Mr. Sin received his education in Chinese in Macao under that famous scholar Chan Chi-Po,-disciple of that renowned reformer Kong Yau Wei. After this he was sent to the Diocesan Boys' School where he had a very successful career and passed the matriculation of the Hong Kong University in 1919. He joined the Lingnan University (then known as the Canton Christian College) with the ultimate intention of studying in the United States. In 1920 he proceeded to join the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at Boston, Massachusetts. For a short time he was with Columbia University from where he proceeded to London and adopted law as a profession. Admitted to the Supreme Court of Judicature in 1928. he practised in London for 3 years, being a member of the firm of Barnett, Sin and Barnett (now Barnett and Barnett) and was the first Chinese Solicitor to practise in the United Kingdom. He was successively legal advisor to the Chinese Consul General in London, the Chinese Charge D'Affaires to the Court of St. James's and the London Chinese Chamber of Commerce. the death of his father, he returned to Hong Kong in 1931 and immediately established his reputation as a sound lawyer. In 1935, when depression was at its height, difficulty was experienced in getting people to serve on the board of the Tung Wah and affiliated Hospitals, Mr. Sin responded to the public call and assumed the chairmanship of these Hospitals which was a most commendable example of service before self. He was for- inerly a member of the District Watch Committee; Vice President of the South China Athletic Association; President of the Diocesan Old Boys Association; Patron of the Chung Sing Benevolent Association; President and District Governor of the Y's Mens' Club of Hong Kong; Chairman of the On Wai Fraternity. In 1936 he was made a Justice of Peace of the Colony and is President of the Euro-American Returned Students Y'man. Vice Patron of the St. John's Ambulance and Brigade. All in all, a bright future is before him. He is very fond of sports and has built a miniature gymnasium in his home, saying always to his friends that "to be fit for arduous work one must be physically sound."

Mr. Tong Thou Kheong, () of Wunfou, Kwangtung Province, is of 39 year of age. His grand-father and his father were engaged in the fish business, and he is dent in nature. At the age of 9 he went to Canton, and at the age 12 he became a ny ardent Kuomintang Supporter. After having completed his studies when Yuen Shai Hot became "Emperor" of China, he resented and went away to Saigon. In Satgon he found.d many Very indepen- Kuomintang associations, but his life thereby was greatly endangered, several attempts were made on his life. At last he went back to his native province and founded : girl school. He 19 very interested in the future and development of his village. In 1921-22 he berme the Magistrate of Wunfou District, amidst all the troubles in the provinces of China

and district was infested with bandits, and he began war upon them by improving communi- Ications and had the villagers well armed and when bandits did attack, he often led the villagers against them. During this period, several Wuchow steamers were pirited and passengers were kidnapped, but he rescued them on all occasions. He has been the founder of over 70 primary and middle schools in his district. He was magistrale for 3 years. leaving the post of magistrate he went to Hupeh Province and became the Chief Treasurer of the Finance Department. In 1926 he was head of the Kuomintang Headquarters in his village. In Canton he controlled two highways, Shawo and Yuepak Highways. He also founded Fook Hing Sun Chuen, Shi Kav Loong Wui, and is also Vice-Chairman of the Food Con'rol Come mittee of Kwangtung Province. His late wife's maiden name was Mok Yuk Ying.udent of St. Stephen Girls' School, and left two sons and one daughter.

Mr. Ma Tsark Man
Mr. Ma Tsark Man, (馬澤民) belongs to the Chiuyeung District, Kwangtung Province. In his schooldays he was very energetic and hardworking. He studied commerce, and soon made great progress in business. He soon came in contact with Mr. Lam Ping Cheong, Singapore commercial magnate. He was given the post as Manager of Woh Fung Steamship Co., in Hongkong. At that period the world economic depression during the post war period struck Hongkong and affected the business of Swatow merchants. With great foresight he immediately came to the rescue by establishing the Swatow Commercial Bank. By so doing loans were ad- vanced to those in need, and the serious situation was got into Control. At the same time he founded the firm of Nam Thai. He became a very successful businessman and amassed a great fortune, which he has utilised in a very appreciative manner. Being real patriotic he has contributed greatly to War Relief and other insti- tutions. During the Ma Chan San campaign against the Japanese, he bought 2,000 campaign Bonds, and soon other members of the Chinese community followed. During the 19th Route Army's fight against the Japanese he contributed $5,000.00 towards this Campaign. During his chairmanship in the Chiuchow and eight Districts Association he was most interested in educational affairs. He also contributed good sums of money to the Puiching School and the Lingnam University. In 1939 when Swatow was lost in the month of May, very great sufferings were caused on the refugees and homeless and he contributed freely to their relief. He also sent rice to Chiuyeung District and sold it at much lower price in order to save the poor. Last year he contributed N$1,000,000.00 towards National Relief Bonds and this act was greatly appreciated by the Chinese Government who thanked him for his generosity. Recently the Governor of Kwangtung, Gen. Li Hon Wen, invited him to be permanent adviser to the Kwangtung Government. He is also member of the Food Control Commission of Kwangtung, and member of the Committee of the Food Distribution Bond of Chiuchow dis- trict. This is some of the many duties he has taken up in spite of his heavy occupation in business affairs.

Mr. Hui Yeung Sing
Hui Yeung Sing, ( 許讓成) of Waiyeung in Waichow District, Kwangtung, is now 48 years of age. At an early age he went to sea, and being very hardworking he started to earn quite a great deal of money as travelling salesman. At the age of 30 he change his business life and started to be a building contractor and then also opened a Gold and Silver jewellery shop. In his native land he started several bus companies by opening up new highways. such as Waitam Highway, Tamshui-Pingshan Highway, Sanmei Highway. Seven years ago he started the Sun Sun Hotel, and then further established Ritz Hotel, and also Yee Lok Restau- rant all in Kowloon. The success of all his establishments and undertakings has been due to his foresight and hardworking methods in business. He has also not lacked in sparing part of his busy time to see that those in need are not helped. In social circles he is well esteemed and has always shown great interest in all charitable institutions. He is a committee member of the Chinese Chamber of Commeree., Ghairman of the Waiyeung District Chamber of Comton contribute towards all war organisations. Mr. Lo Tung-fan (羅棟勳) is a native of the Tung Kun District, Kwangtung, and is now 37 years old. When young, he studied Chinese at the Sheung Fu School. He then studied English at the Saiyingpun Government School from which he was promoted to Queen's College. He was Dux and Head Prefect of Queen's College when he matriculated. He studied Political Science at the University of Hongkong and took the B.A. degree in 1926. He then went to England where he joined the Faculty of Laws at University College of the University of Lon- don. He took the LL.B. degree with Second Class Honours in 1930. In the same year he was called to the Bar by Gray's Inn. He then went to the United States where he did postgraduate work in Public International Law at the Law School of Columbia University. He returned to China in 1931 when he was admitted to practise as an attorney-at-law in the Chinese courts of justice by the Ministry of Judicial Administration in Nanking. While in Nanking he held an appointment as a legal expert at the Legislative Yuan of the National Government. In 1932 he returned to Hongkong to practise law, and in 1933 he was admitted a member of the Canton Bar Association. Mr. Lo is an acknowledged expert in Chinese law in the Hongkong courts.
Mr. Lo is a member of the Education Board, Chairman of the Po Leung Kuk, Chairman of the Children's Playground Association, Chairman of the Tung Yee Tong of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Tung Kun District, and Vice-President of the South China Athletic Association, and he serves on the committees of many other clubs and associations.
In 1933 Mr. Lo was married at the British Consulate-General in Tientsin to Miss Helen Liang, and they have at present two sons and one daughter.

Mr. Wong Yuek Shing, (黃育成) of Kit Yeung District, Kwangtung Province, is now 52 At the age of 18, he came with his elder brother to Hongkong, and worked in the Hang Yue Thai Riceshop. Being a very honest and hardworking person he soon became the manager of the shop, and by his hardworking efforts his business increased and he con- trolled many other riceshops namely: The Tack Cheong Thai, Yuen Tsan, Hang Foong, Hang Yue Tsan, Hang Hing Thai, and became a rice magnate. In 1933, he established the rice guild, and became the vice-chairman. In 1937-40 he was the Director of the Rice Guild. He is a very patriotic person, and is a member of National Salvation Bond Committee, and also holds other posts. His efforts have resulted in a sale of more than nearly 40,000 Salvation Bonds.

Mr. Simon Tse Yan, J. P.
Mr. Simon Tse Yan,(謝家寶) J.P., son of the late Mr. Francisco Tse Yat, a prominent merchant, was born in Hong Kong. He was graduated from the St. Joseph's College with a brilliant school record. In his early age he was a keen sportsman, and in 1897 during the Goldern Jubilee of Her Majesty the late Queen Victoria, he won the first prize in the round Colony bicycle racing.
He entered business when he left school being appointed Sub-Manager of the Hong Kong, Canton and Macao Steam Boats Co., which position he held over five years. He established the Po Kee Shipping Co., in 1917. Later he was invited and accepted the post of Chinese Manager of the N. Y. K. Steam Ship Co.; he left when the Sino-Japanese War broke out, through patriotism.
He is a tireless social worker and had served as Director of the Tung Wah, Tung Wah Eastern and Kwong Wah Hospitals; Director of the Po Leung Kuk; Member of the Committee of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce; and Vice-President of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. He is one of the founders of the Children's Industrial Institute, and the Home for the Aged, Kowloon. He had rendered great help in the celebrations of the Silver Jubilee, 1935, and the Coronation, 1937. Presently, he serves as Member of the Committee of the Chinese Relief Association, Member of the Committee for Refugee Camps, Member of the Committee of the Air Raid Precautions Wardens, and Member of the Planning Committee for Evacuation to Lan-
tao Island.
He married the elder daughter of Mr. Ho Kom Tong, O.B.E., and has a happy family with six children.

Mr. Tse Yue-chuen, (謝雨川 ) aged 41, is a native of Poon-yue District, Kangtung Province. He is one of the most prominent businessmen in the Colony. When young, he was very intelligent and different from the ordinary boys. He joined St. Joseph's College, in Hong Kong when he was eleven years old. In 1915 he joined the St. Paul's College, from which
he graduated two years later.
He began Commerce as Chief Accountant of the Commercial Co., and Sheung Wah Co., Shanghai. In 1925, he was invited to join the staff of Messrs. Melchers & Co., Ltd., as Chinese Chief Clerk and Accountant of the Import Department. He served for more than ten years and was promoted Compradore in 1935. When the second World War was declared the said company closed down and Mr. Tse left for the compradoreship of the American Far
Eastern Syndicate, Inc.

a well-known businessman of Hongkong. He is the Manager of the Canton Branch of Wong Tong Kei Timber merchants, and during his tenure of office he became very well-known amongst the different departments of the Canton Government, and also came into contact with the Management of Kwangtung-Hankow Railway. Thereby he expanded his business a great deal, and was one of the main suppliers of timber and sleepers for railways and other public works, and industrial factories. Wherever wood was means of construction he has been one of the main suppliers and his business prospered a lot. After the fall of Canton, he came to Hongkong and joined his father's firm. Being of a very pushing and hardworking nature he has won great respect amongst his friends and associates. In social work he has not been lacking, and has given quite a good part of his time. He is a member of the Committee of the Kwong Wah Hospital, and Director of the Tung Wah Hospital. Still in the prime of age he has done a great deal to further his name amongst notable personalities in the Chinese community. His future holds great prospects for him.

But the recommendations were shelved for an indefinite period, as the situation changed when the Sino-Japanese war broke out near Pelping on July 7, 1937. An accomplishment of no mean order later on was the export of half of the accumulated stock of antimony result of the war. By arrangement with a British financier in Hongkong through the above mentioned foreign under difficult conditions. Transportation on the Yangtze River to Shanghai for export became dead as a experts and the Hunan Antimony Administration of the National Resources Commission. Mr. Chang helped to sell and export by the Canton-Hankow Railway 3500 tons of antimony at the good price of £70 per ton. But, regrettably no permission was granted regarding the sale of the other 3500 tons. and the price of anti-
mony later dropped down to £50. One can easily appreciate Mr. Chang'e farsightedness.

Mr. Ng Chak Wah,(吳澤華) Vice-Chairman of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, belongs to the Kit-yeung District, Kwangtung Province, but has settled in Hong Kong since his ancestors. After being graduated from the Queen's College, he began his commercial career and soon gained the reputation of an energetic and trustworthy merchant.
energetic person. His whole life has been of hard work and he has succeeded in all his busi- ness by his straight forward and reliable work. He is always liked by those with whom he comes in contact. No sooner the present Sino-Japanese hostilities broke out, he started in transportation business and established two firms Hwong Woh Transportation Co., and Luen Fung Thai Transportation Co., to handle all transportation between Swatow and Hongkong. In this business he has succeeded beyond expectations and his business activities are increasing. He is also greatly interested in the affairs of his native town which has always received his attention. At present he is a member of the Chiu Chow District Association.
He went into the shipping business at his prime age, being appointed Chinese Manager of the Java-China-Japan Lijn, N.V. With his eminent ability he developed the business, attained a good name in the shipping and commercial circles, and received warm admiration among Chinese and foreign friends.
He rendered memorable works to the Tung Wah Hospital when he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hospital in 1935, giving financial and personal help to all charitable
acts.
On account of his various contributions to the running of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, while he was a member of the Committee, he was elected Vice-Chairman of the Chamber for the ensuing term.
He set good example to merchants by offering big donation to the relief work in time of the Chinese Resistant War.
