Mr. Cheung Wing Khum
Mr. Cheung Wing Khum, (張詠琴) belongs to the Sun-tak District, Kwangtung Province. At present he is 62 years of age. He is the owner of Cheung Ka Chei Wine Factory, and chief Manager of Messrs. Kwong Fat Cheong of Selangor, Strait Settlements. He is a very keen wine producer, and with his friends also founded Hang Lum Wine Factory. Having studied the latest methods in wine producing he soon succeeded in this business and is well known for his products. In 1911, he founded the firm of Tung Hing Shing, Wing Yuen Ex- port and Import Co., Kwong Fat Cheong and Thin Yin Mei Ching Factory. In 1931 he left the Hang Lum Factory, and founded the Cheong Ka Chei Wine Factory.
He is very philanthropic in nature and always ready to supply any poor family whose relative is deceased with a coffin free of charge. He has contributed generously to Charitable and Relief work in China. He is Vice-Chairman of the Chung Shing Benevolent Society. His wife, formerly Miss Leung Shau Ying, is now a mother of four sons and two daughters.
Mr. Chang Shiu Tong
Mr. Chang Shiu Tong, Manager of the Bank of Kwangsi (Hong Kong Branch), belongs to the Sunwhoi District, Kwangtung Province. He is a graduate of the Hwangtung Military School and the Peping ordnance School,and a recognized financial expert.
He had served as Trainer in Ordnance subjects in the Whampoa Military College, and when the Revolutionary Army began its Northern Strike, he was appointed Ordnance Officer in the Command Headquarters, following the Army through more than seven Provinces. When the National Government was established in Nanking he was promoted to Sub-Director in the Ordnance Department, War Office. Later, he was transferred to Hangkow, and when the 4th Army Corps was formed he was appointed Director of the Ordnance Department in the Command Headquarters. His works have been highly recognized by the heads of the 4th Army Corps, General Li Tsung-jen and General Pei Chung-hsi.
When the Bank of Kwangsi extended its branch to Hong Kong he was appointed Sub-Manager,and later promoted to Manager. Mr Chang is a zealous supporter to the war relief work and public welfare and within only a short period he gained reputation in the local commercial and social circles.

Mr. Fung Tse Ying, son of the late Mr. Fung Bok Um, a prominent merchant in the Colong, belong to the Pun-yu
District, Kwangtung Province.
He was graduated from the Queen's College with a brilliant school record. On leaving school be entered the commercial circle and founded the Ying Wah Drug Co., and soon became prominent among the local businessmen.
Mr. Fung is a willing supporter in public welfare and charity. When he was Chairman of the Pun-yu Chamber of Commerce, he rendered memorable works to the Chamber and his native land. He served as Director of Tung Wah Hospital in 1937, and Director of the Po Leung Kuk in 1938, and in the beginning of 1940 he was ellected to be Chairman f the Board of Directors of the Tung Wah, Kwong Wah and Tung Wah East Hospitals. His ancestors wore great patrons of the Tung Wah Hospital, his grandfater, the late Mr. Fung Cheung How, and his father, the late Mr. Fung Bok Um, lhad
rendered great support to the Hospital. And in rememorance to their kindess and generosity_their_life=0 hanged in the Great Hall of the Hospital.
Mr. Fung has a happy family with a virtuous wife and six children.

Mr. Wong Shiao Lai
Mr. Wong Shiao Lai, one of the most prominent figures in China, belongs to the Tsing District, Chekiang Province, Presently, he is fifty-six years old.
Since the Sino-Japanese War broke ont, he has endeavoured to help the National Government with all his might for the national salvation. After the retreat of our army from Shanghai, Mr. Wong left for Hong Kong, Carrying on his duties as Member of the Central Relief Committee and Member of the Committee of the Chinese Red Cross Association. The is a strong promoter of local industries with national interest.
Mr. Wong was "born with a silver spoon in his mouth"; his family is the richest in the District, Having received fine training from private tuitors, he went to Shanghai whers he was twenty, and entered into business dealing in tea, silk, cotton yarn and banking. Before thirty, he turned out to be a financial magnate and a leading personality in Shanghai.
He is willing supporter to all social, Charitable, and educational works, having been Committee Member of the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce for more than fifteen years, and officials of the Chinese Tax Payers Association, the He joined the the Chekiang Association and the Shan Shing Leven Districts Association for more than ten years.
Chinese Division of the Municipal Volunteer Corps immediately when he came to Shanghai and he is the founder of Volunteer Corps in Chap Pek.
He has a warm friendship with Generalissimo Chiang Kai Shek, and he had rendered great help during the Northern Strike of the National Revolutionary Army. After the National Gavernment was formed with its Capital in Nanking in 1927, he had held several important posts under the Ministery of Finance.

ancestors were famous silk manufacturers and embroiderer. Succeeding to his family industry he adopted the new method and entered the Higher Industry School for advanced learning to improve the business. His productions received the highest attributions in the 1923 Chinese
Production Exhibition held in Shanghai.
He came to Hong Kong on the invitation of Mr. Lui Wai Chow to set up a large silk knitting factory employing more than 500 workmen. In 1935 he established the Sam Sing Knitting Factory turning out fine silk and cotton knitting products for exports to the British
Colonies and East Indies.
Mr. Sum has a happy family of a good wife and five sons and three daughters. The elder son, Mr. Sum Kwok Ging, is assisting him in the factory.

Christito P. J. Chen's (陳秉仁)acquaintance, my first he was very sincere and straight forward. If he wishes to express his views on any subject, he is absolutely free from any "beating about the bush".
Mr. Chen is now in his prime, owing 38 years of age. He has achieved his principal aim in life, both in business and in social circles. Starting school at the age of 5 years, he received an education similar to the other boys of his generation, and at age 23 he acquired the Degree of B. A. from the University of Amoy. He entered the University at the age of 18. Always a bright and active student, he now had greater opportunities to learn about the outside world; but nothing held so much attraction and interest for him as the Y.M.C.A. activities. He was well rewarded for his hard work on this service, for he was elected President of the Uni- versity Y.M.C.A. for four years running. Needless to say, he thoroughly enjoyed this position, and always did so well for the organization that he was later made General Secretary of the City Y.M.C.A., and, later on, again to greater heights by becoming the Director; thus realising his ambition.
Now we come to his business career. Mr. Chen started in the Import and export business and with all his enthusiasm for work he did well in this. He is the partner and director of several firms. However, he always had an eye on the Insurance business,-not Insurance in general, but that branch which he con- sidered most essential-Life. By working hard and coming into contact with people who soon learned of his good character, he joined the Tai Shan Insurance Co. where he worked steadily and it did not take long for a man of his ability to be promoted. He rose from Branch Manager to Supervisor Life Department all in the space of 8 years. He did not take success as a matter of course in the war time, but still went on steadily with his work and at the moment he is the Co-manager of the United States Life Insurance Co. in the City of New York, H.K. Branch.
Mr. Chen considers the Pastor and the Life Insurance man to be somewhat alike. The former preaches the Gospel to the people in order that they may enter the Kingdom of Heaven, while the latter brings security and that is Mr. Chen's to the society by writing the Life Insurance. Both are absolutely indispensable, principal reason for choosing Life Insurance above all others to be his life-work.

He had Served as interpreter in S. S. Mongolia, and had a good Chance to carry out his special duties. He rendered memorable works in the Revolution and was a brave bodyguard of the late Dr. Sun Yat sen.
After the formation of the National Government, he had held several important posts including District Officer of Sun Woi and Shun Tak, Councilor of the National Government, Harbour Master of Kwangtung, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Lun Yee Union Councilor of the 4th Route Army, etc.
Recently with Mr. Tang Yu Kung he established the "Kung Ping Pon", a forward newspaper in the Colony.

Mr. Fung Wai Hin, (馮蔚軒) a native of Man Chong District, Hainan 1::land, Kwang-
tung, Province, obtained his early education at Hainan Provisional Middle School.
Later, Mr. Fung went to Canton to study laws. After his graduation from the Canton Law School, Mr. Fung came to Hongkong and jointed Lee Chong Co., that was the beginning
of his commercial career.
Mr. Fung was very attendative in social affairs and benevolent associations. He was chairman of Tung Wah Hospital, member of the committee of the Chinese Chamber of Com- merce, Director and Treasurer of Hainan Business Association, Vice-chairman and Treasurer
of South China Recreation Club.

Mr. Cheng Chek Che
Chek-Che, aged 42,(鄭植之)a native of Kit-yeung, Kwangtung Province,
is a prominent and progressive businessman.
In 1921 Mr. Cheng established the Jep-Ho Iron and Steel Manufacturing Company at
Swatow. For 20 years, the company under his able management has flourished to such extend
with its branches in Shanghai, Canton, Hongkong and Kwangsi. The Hongkong factory is a
most up-to-date factory equiped with European machineries and covered a vast track of land,
situated at To-Kwa Wan Road, Kowloon.
Since the undeclared Sino-Japanese War, broke this company becomes the first private company manufacturing defensive armaments in large scale for the Chinese soldiers. With
the technical assistances of his two brothers Messrs. Cheng Yick-che and Wing-che, the com-
pany is advancing by leaps and bounces.
With the co-operations of a few friends, in 1934 Mr. Cheng established the South China Clock Manufacturing Company. One of the famous products of this company is the "Compass" brand time piece which is well-known throughout the country.

His family
In 1925
Mr. Chan Sheu Tong, (陳紹棠) belongs to the Sunwui District, Kwangtung and predecessor have resided in Hongkong for the last 90 years. His father the late Mr. Chan Ping Kwan was a famous paper merchant. He was educated in King's College, and at the age of 18 after leaving school he went into business, and soon joined as a writer in Chinese in the Naval Dockyard, and from there he joined the Hongkong Police as Chinese secretary. Just at the outbreak of the first world war he joined the Police Reserve Ambulance force. he became secretary of the Water Works Department. After 5 years' service there he left Government service, and founded Wing Lee Contractors, form which secured good business from the Government departments in plumbing and water works repairs. He constructed the Bowrington Canal. In 1934 the Kwangsi Government requested him to come to Kwangsi and become head of the English teaching department of the Kwangsi Air Force. After one year of service there he returned to Hongkong and joined a large firm as translator of the Chung Sing Bathing Shed. During the revolution he was asked to join the Kuomin- devoted most of his spare time to better the conditions off the Chinese community in Hong- tang party, but he refused to enter Government services, when the Republic was formed. He kong. At the age of 52 years, he is still robust in health. His wife is the third daughter of Mr. Hsi Sin Chi, and is blessed with a happy family of 6 sons and one daughter. His eldest son Mr. Chan Fei Hon, is noted in Hongkong as a qualified musician.

Mr. Lak Pak Kut, (羅百吉) aged 75, belongs to the Nam-hoi District, Kwangtung Pro-
vince. He is a former student of St. Joseph's College. At the age of 19 he went to Sandakan,
and after that he became the compradore of Messrs. Harrison & Co. He is well-known among
the Overseas merchants. He has several shops both in Hongkong and in Sandakan handling large business in firewood. Although having reached such an elderly age he is still active and hardworking. Mr. Wong Wan Yuk, (王蘊玉) Sub-Manager of the Fukien Provincial Bai, was born
thirty-seven years ago in Amoy, Fukien Province.
He is a graduate of the Kai Nam University, Shanghai; and had been in the Philippine University for advanced study.
On return to China, he practiced in Shanghai and Amoy as Chartered Accountant, later he took up also the post of Professor in the Amoy University. He participated, at the same time, insurance business in both cities.
After the out-break of the Sino-Japanese War, he come to Hongkong with his family, and soon he was offered and accepted the post of agent of the Fukien Provincial Bank. When the Hongkong Branch of the Bank was established he was appointed Sub-Manager.
He is a willing social worker, presently serves officials of the Fukien Chamber of Com-
merce and the Fukien Association.

His is very frugal in nature, and is very plain in his habits. He is very helpful to all his friends and business associates. In the fallen areas of China, he has done his best to send friends to investigate conditions and rendered relief work amongst the poor and homeless, and has contributed more than one million dollars for such work. His latest hobby has been to find a new alphabets for the Chinese writing. His alphabets can be learned in three days, and is now this alphabets. At that moment. the upheaval Manchu dynasty had just started and the Revolution had succeeded establishing the Kuomintang party in power. He became the leader of the Kuomintang party in his business town. His contributions to the Kuo- mintang party has not been sparing. Returning to China, he was offered an important post. that of the and he successfully handled the duties connected with his post and became a very liked person amongst the Finance Minister of the Kav-Kong district of Kwangtung. His business experience was a great help to him, community of the Kav-Kong district. After some period when his department was successfully established the left the Government and came to Hongkong and established the Wah Tat Handkerchief Fictory, producing the well-known Three-sheep Brand of Kerchiefs. He is well respected amongst all members of the community and also the Chinese Government. During the 21st. year of the Republic, he again went to America and conducted an extensive lecture tour explaining the need for help to China for her struggle against Japanese Imperialism. During his absence he handed all control of his factory to Mr. Ma Pak Yee. No sooner he arrived in the States the second Sino-Japanese undeclared war broke out, and the result of his tour has been a very large contribu- tion by the Chinese community for help to China. Finding him at the moment with a young age of 45 years and a family of 15 children, his following years will surely still bring him honours and greater respect from all members of the Community both here and abroad. His eldest son Mr. Ma Seng Kun is a graduate of Fuk Tan University and is now continuing his studies in America. Also his other sons are studying in the United
States.

Mr. Hui Kung of Mr. Hui Kung Chi. At an early age, he started business, and within a short time became very successful. In 1921, he established with his brother the now famous Chung Wah Hat Manufacturing Co. In 1923 to gain further knowledge he went abroad and returned with more modern ideas about hat manufacturing. Then he went to Singapore, and expanded the sales of his products. In 1927 he went for an extensive tour to Europe and visited several factories in all important countries. On return, he went to Shanghai and opened a branch factory. He suffered very heavy loss during the hostilities of 1932 as the whole factory was destroyed by the Japanese. Being of a quiet nature and possesing good business acumen he is very hardworking and has developed good friendship and understanding with all he has come in contact. His philanthropic help to those who are in need has never been forgotten.

aged thirty-nine, son of the late Mr. Yeung Tsun Chor, a prominent merchant of the Colony,
is a native of Fatshan in the district of Namhoi, Kwangtung.
At an early age he received good education in both the Chinese and the English Languages. No sooner he had given up study in order to relieve his father of the pressure of work, then he proved himself his father's worthy son as well as able assistant. On his father's death in 1934 he succeeded to the responsible office of manager of Kwong Fat Yuen Hong, an old eatablished firm of importers and exporters of hides, leathers and timber, with branches in Shanghai, Tientsin, Mukden, Hankow, Chefoo, Ningpo, Wenchow and Bangkok. Devoted himself to the extension of his business, he began dealing also in various other lines such as shoe-materials, wood-oil, teasseed-oil tanning extracts, etc., and recently established branches in Chungking and HengYang. He is chairman of the Board of Directors of the South China insurance Co., Ltd.
Mr Yeung takes a warm interest in social welfare, having served as Principal Director of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. At present he is a member of the Executive Committee of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Hamhoi Chamber of Commerce and Director of the Namhoi Middle School, Canton.
Because of his extensive business connections, he is fond of travel, having journeyed throughout China and Malaya. He married Miss Lo Lai Ching, and is now fateher of nine children.

forty-eight years of age, is the nineth sons of Mr. Tang Lai-Bun the organizer of the Fook On Insurance Company in Hong Kong. The business was developed over all the cities of Far East, and also the primary one of the profession of Insurance in our country.
When Mr. Tang was young, he studied commerce at Waseda University in Japan. After being graduated, he was appointed manager of Fook Woon Money Exchange and Fook On Insurance Company, Indo-China branch.
Having returned to his mother country, he was appointed the Professor of the National Sun Yet Sun University, Chief accountant of Kwangtung Provincial Bank and was entrusted to take charge of its branch in Hoi Hou. He was then the manager of the Kam Shing Mer- cantile Bank; and Tai Ping Insurance Company in Canton and Hong Kong Branch.
In January 1940, the Shanghai Insurance Company was struck by his famous reputation and earnestly invited him to be the chief manager.

Mr. Chan Kwan Chiu, (陳君超) aged 41, a native of the Chung Shan District, Kwangtung Province, is the second Mr. Chan Pui Chee, prominent merchant in the Colony. Mr. Chan is deeply interested in cinematography. When he was graduated from the Queen's College in 1918, he joined the staff of the Hongkong Amusements Ltd H. W. Ray on invitation of his teacher, Mr. The Coronet theatre The Hongkong Amusements Ltd H. W. Ray was a leading concern in cinema business and Mr. Chan secured his foundamental knowledge in the business while he was there.
In 1925, he directed a picture, "The Army Dream", which turned out to be one of the best pictures locally made. Mr.Chan has good experience in establishing cinema house; the Mo Fan Theatre, Canton, and the Alhambra Theatre, Kowloon, were established with his plan.
In 1936, he founded the Kai Ming Co., which has two leading theatres The Central and the Cathay-under its control, and a large studio with many good pictures produced every year. He founded also the Chung Tai Trading Co., distributing
pictures for a large market.
Mr. Chian married the former Miss Chung Hap Hing. They live a happy family life and have seven fine children.

Mr. Hing is also well-known in benevolent works. He has served as either chairman or director of Sung-Ching Workmen and Merchants Association, Chairman of Chung-shan Mer- chants Association, Chairman of Tung Wah, Tung Wah Eastern and Kwong Wah Hospitals, Chairman of Chung-Sing Benevolent Society, Committee Member of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Honorable Principal of Wing Fung School at Chung-shan.
After the fall of
Last year, because of the fighting in Chung-shan district, the Chung-shan Refugees Relief Association, appointed him as leader of the refugees relief corp. Chung-shan, Mr. Hing helped to establish a refugee camp at Macau.
