The fag fell to a good start which saw Sidier Roy in the van, Nutmeg Tree second and Cherokee Chief third. Sidier Roy maiu- tained his lead until the village was neared. Then Nutmeg Tree 100k the lead and gained about four lengths on the field before the straight was entered. The other ponies neared him in the home run, but he had plenty to spare and secured an easy win, Strathnairn being second and Cherokee Chief third. Time -1 min 32 Fecs. The pari mutuel paid $8.00 on the winner; $5.80 on the first; and $16.20 on the second. The field of eight were headed by Kirkmichael at the start. Can Para running in second place and Maori Chief third. Past the judges stand for the first time Kirkmichael led the field by several lengths, and held this lead until the incline was reached. Going up this Maori Chief was fast overhauling the leader, but Kirkmiobael, easily ridden, was still ahead when the village was pissed. Entering the straight Grey Tick drew away from the field Mr John Peel's Quorn 11st 41's...

Pilgrim was slightly in the lead when the bunch emerged from the football field, but as the incline was reached Butterpunch drew ahead. Rounding the village bend Black Prince Rose and Dalliance came to the fore, and Rose challenged the leader in the straight. It was a splendid race home, and the end saw Black Prince Rose first, Butterpunch seonnd sud Dalliance third, Time-1 min 19 5 secs. The pari matael paid 820.90 on the winner; $10 on the first pony; $11.20 on the second; and $67.50 on the third. Cash swoop payments we e 81,134 first pony; 8324 second; and $162 third.
SECOND DAY.
Wednesday, February 12th. Notwithstanding the threatening weather there was another large attendence at Happy Valley yesterday for the second day of the rices. Early in the morning the trams raaning to the local sports centre were filled, so that by the time th⚫ first race started there was a largo 1 crowd in the many stands, and this increased an the day wore 00, His Excellency the Governor and Lady Logird were again in attendance, and there were also many ladies present. Yesterday's 3 musical programme was entrusted to the band of the Cimeron Highlanders, and they var ed the ordiary music by occasional selections on the

Kirkwood relieved Mischief of first place and the latter pony gradually fell to the rear. Then Mohawk Chief and Palm Tree drew level with Kirkwood and one of the best and most exciting races of the day, if not the best, was witnessed in the gallop up the straight.
