YOKOHAMA, 31st August. Since the 15th inst. the demand for Raw Silk for Europe and America alike has continued active and prices register a further advance of 20 yen to 30 yen per penl. The total settlements from 1st July to 29th August (including 2,954 bales direct shipment, by Japanese) amount to 15.499 piculs, as compared with 13,419 piculs for the corres; onding period last year. The unsold stock in Yokohama is 7,926 bales. In Waste Silks and Cocoons business has been fairly active at very high prices and a fur- ther advance in values is probable, the settlements during the fortnight are 3,0) piculs, and the present stock is estimated at 7,900 piculs.

Advices from Manchester report the market quiet but steady with little business doing. In the earlier part of the week there was a slight tendency for the market to weaken in sympathy with the price of Cotton which has dropped to 6.32d. This, no doubt, arises from the prospects of the Cotton crop being more favourable. Exports from England for the fortuight ending on 5th instant, amounted to nine million yards. Piece Goods.- The only sale we have heard of besides those mentioned above is 8.4lb. Red Jo's Grey Shirtings (@Tis. 2.87; but we believe this transaction took place last week. Prices at auction incline to be irregular but on the whole are slightly higher, rates being chiefly forced lower where larger quantities than usual were offered for sale. Cotton Yarn.-Indian.-Beyond the purchase of a few No. 10s, by Newchwang, business has again been confined to the River Ports, and the sales amount to the respectable total of 3,886 bales. From Newchwang there is nothing of importance to note; but from Tientsin there is evidently a rather better feeling, owing, it is said, to the fact that clearances into consumption during this mouth alone are equal to those of last month.
