At Newchwang on the 9th instant a team was formed from the ships in port to play a football match against H.M.S. Espiègle. The latter scored au easy victory by 5 goals to nil.
With reference to the Report of Dr. Moore, Acting Health Officer to the Shanghai Municipal Council, reproduced in our yesterday's issue, Messrs. Butterfield & Swire write as follows to the Shanghai papers-We are authorised by that gentleman to state that he has ascertained from the Deputy Health Officer of the Port that his remarks as to the extremely filthy state in which he found the ice chests had no reference to the vessels of our fleet, as on none of them had he found the state of things, to which he objected, existing. Dr. Moore further authorises us to state. that the vessel on which they found native ice on their inspec ion of 9th instant, was not one of our steamers.
A Wachow despatch quoted by the NC Daily News reports that in accordance with the consent of the Throne, asked for and obtained by him, Viceroy Shum has telegraphed to the Viceroys and Governors of Yunnan, Kweichan, Shansi, Sheusi, and Honan, for certain of their best drilled and armed regimen's to come down to Kwangsi with all'haste to assist in restoring peace in the South. This makes thirteen pro- vinces in all from wheic Viceroy Shum has drawn troops to his standard, namely, Hunan, Hupeh, Kiang-u, Anhwei, Kiangsi, Chêkiang, Fobkien, Kwangtung and the five provinces above named. It should also be remembered that all the re.iments asked for by name are the best provided in every way and the best formed, physically, of all the forces of the empire, not even excepting the foreign-modelled troops of Viceroy Yuan Sh kai.

Sir H. 8. Wilkinson, Chief Justice of H.B.M's Supreme Court in China and Cores, is expected to return to Shangbai on the 26th inst., when Mr. H. F. King, the acting Assis. tant Judge. will return to his former post of Consul in Hangchow.
It is reported that Panglima Polim, the last of the prominent Achinese chiefs to hold out against the Dutob, has surrendered uncondition. Nevertheless. it would not be surprising if. fifty years hence, ally to the Governor of Acheen. there were still a war in Achin.
The intelligence that directs the action of the Peking Government, says the N.-C. Daily News, is faintly indicated by the fact that it has sent down an Articl to be embodied in the American Commercial Treaty, by which the U. 8. Consul-General here is bound to im mediately suppress any newspaper publishing seditions or offensive matter, at d to punish the writers thereof.
The N.-C. Daily News Tokyo correspondent says, under date 7th September: -Russian crnisers recently seized eleven Japanese schoners, with crews amounting to 278 men. in Kamschatkan waters on a charge of poaching. They released 250 of the men a detained 28 at Vladivostock for trial, which, owing to the direct influence of Admiral Alexieff, speedily ended in the acquittal of all

The Kobe Chronicle says, with regard to the Manchurian question, that the pres nt is perhaps the most favourable time for sensational reports which are being circulated. It is rumoured, for instance, that the number of operatives in the rifle-manufacture departent of the Tokyo Military Arsenal was suddenly increased a few days ago, and that since then extra night-work has been going on uninterruptedly, the manu facture of rifles being pushed forward with great vigour.
