Another fault is the can- didates' English. More often than not, their compositione are loaded with grammatical errors. You must make a thorough study of basic gram- mar, and learn to write simple, accurate and clear English. There is no need to give long complicated sentences and difficult vocabulary to score: an:*A* in the composition examination.
One distinct type of come position in EKCEE English I is argumentative. Today a sample of argumentative com- position is presented for your reference.

Imagine you are a parent. State your views on the disadvantages of watching. television for your om children and how you would limit their watching.
In my view, television does more harm than good to ay own children, In the first place, television often makes ay children unable to concen− trate their minds on their atudies. It is so attractive. to children that they cannot easily resist the temptation of watching the programmes on the screen. As a result, their schoolwork tends to deter riorate.
My children often stay up late watching television and
health. Besides, watching'
television for a long time
will also harm their eyesight. It is undeniable that television has a profound effect on the way our childu ren learn. Children learn ⠀ from watching television and what they learn depends on what they watch. If they look at violent or aggressive pro- grammes, they tend to become more aggressive and die- obedient, Children who watch a lot of violence on tele- vision may come to accept | violence as normal behaviour.
In fact, children readily. accept what they see without | considering whether it
right or wrong. They lack the ability to judge things with a critical mind.
Watching television is a passive form of entertainment and therefore children are deprived of the opportunity of Independent thinking. To sone extent,television con- trols children's thinking and stifles their imagination.
In view of the above- mentioned disadvantages of watching television for my own children, I intend to plan my children's televisión watching for the future, I shall limit their viewing time and use television watch- ing as en incentive to their studies. If they ork property ly and attentively, they may. be rewarded by granting thew the permission to view it a bit longer. If they rush through their homework or neglect their studies, they may be penalised by having their viewing hours complete- ly cut off. I ahall watch television with my children, interpreting when necessary and discuss the programbes with them afterwards. I shall encourage the viewing of some good programmes and dis- courage the viewing of the bad ones.
