2. The Harmonious Coexistence between Man and Nature
Instead of staying in shopping malls, try to find time to visit country parks on holidays to appreciate the wonderful works of the Creator. In so doing, people can refine their inner world. While enjoying nature, we also have to do our utmost to cherish and protect natural resources such as rivers, brooks, oceans, trees, animals and plants. Ecological balance has to be achieved when construction works and development are taking place. Only when man cherishes nature can he continue to exist in this world. A council's decision often carries profound implications on developments and the ecology. A council with increased greening and conservation awareness should judge every issue from the viewpoint of long-term ecological balance.
3. Re-establishment of the relationship between Man and the Creator
If the Creator is one with a great deal of creativity and gave mankind a graceful environment with a splendid ecosystem, we should treasure everything, be it a flower, grass, a tree or a human being. We ought to make more self-examinations, return to our original selves and cherish our resources. Natural resources should not be monopolized by this generation. We should keep them for the next generation who in turn should do the same for their descendants. As "safekeepers", we of the present generation should ponder the Creation's original meaning as well as the harmonious coexistence between Heaven and man, man and matters, matters and Heaven. As nature goes in constant cycles, only when mankind accommodates themselves to the perpetual cycles of ecosystem and environment can they enjoy a harmonious way of development and meaningful lives. Apparently, conservation of the inner world is an abstract concept, but it is by no means unattainable. In fact, it is very close at hand, affecting our daily lives. Simply change our indigenous concept and conservation of the inner world is extremely easy to achieve.
While the greening and conservation work depends very much on Government's long-term policy, conservation of individuals lies in personal self-reflection. Both physical and spiritual conservation are essential. I wish Hong Kong all the best and hope that she will evolve into a green metropolis.
