PROVISIONAL URBAN COUNCIL

183

The question was put to the vote.

The motion was unanimously carried.

(2) THE Vice-Chairman of Provisional Urban Council moved:—

*RESOLVED that the Urban Council/Provisional Urban Council Annual Report 1997/98 be approved.'

He said (in Cantonese):—I will be moving the motion and speaking as the Vice-Chairman of the Provisional Urban Council.

I rise to move the motion standing in my name for the approval of the 1997/98 Urban Council/Provisional Urban Council Annual Report.

The 1997/98 Urban Council/Provisional Urban Council Annual Report recorded the work and achievements of the Council during the period from 1.4.1997 to 31.3.1998.

In accordance with Sections 48 and 49 of the Provisional Urban Council Ordinance, the Chairman of the Provisional Urban Council should forward the Annual Report together with the audited account to the Chief Executive before they are tabled at the Legislative Council. As such, the Annual Report which you have a copy in hand is only for your reference at this stage. It will be distributed to the other concerned parties and be for sale in the market after a copy has been forwarded to the Chief Executive.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank members of the editorial board comprising members of the Public Relations Sub-Committee for all the constructive ideas they have given, I would also like to thank the departmental staff for their hard work and Members for their valuable contributions which have made this year's Annual Report more appealing in layout as well as in content.

With these remarks, I beg to move.

Would Mr. SUEN Kai-cheong, Chairman of the Administration Select Committee, second the motion and speak?

MR. SUEN KAI-CHEONG, CHAIRMAN OF THE ADMINISTRATION SELECT COMMITTEE (in Cantonese):—Mr. Chairman and Members, this year, the Annual Report has been compiled in one single volume incorporating both the Chinese and English versions and the result is quite satisfactory. With a layout similar to that of the previous year, the content of the Annual Report centres round business of the 13 Select Committees. There is a newly included item—the 'Calendar of Major Events', which summarizes the important events of the year. A number of artistically composed photographs of highly professional standard as well as illustrative statistical charts and tables are also included.
