FEARS are entertained for the safety of 110 passengers and 102 members of the crew of the 8,618-ton N. Y. K. liner Bokuyo Maru, afire in mid-ocean 1,300 miles east of Yokohama.

Vessels of all nationalities are racing to the rescue of the doomed vessel which, however, is believed to be some hundred miles from the nearest possible rescuers.

S.O.S. messages sent by the ship at 6 o'clock this morning said she was burning fiercely in latitude 159.8 east, longitude 36.38 north,
