FEARS FOR BIG LINER MOBS IN TSINAN

ABLAZE

JAPANESE SHIP, EN ROUTE TO H.K.

FEARS are entertained for the safety of 110 passengers and 102 members of the crew of the 8,618-ton N. Y. K. liner Bokuyo Maru, afire in mid-ocean 1,300 miles east of Yokohama.

Vessels of all nationalities are racing to the rescue of the doomed vessel which, however, is believed to be some hundred miles from the nearest possible rescuers.

S.O.S. messages sent by the ship at 6 o'clock this morning said she was burning fiercely in latitude 159.8 east, longitude 36.38 north,

The last radio message despairingly said that the vessel was in serious danger.

RADIO GOES DEAD

Since this message was received some hours ago there has been silence.

It is believed that the passengers and crew have been forced

to take to the boats.

Brief messages from the Captain said that the fire started

Japanese gendarmerie finally restored order. NEW JAPANESE WEAPON

A new weapon is being used against Britain in the Japanese-occupied area in North China.

Having all the appearance of "intimidation strikes," Chinese employees of Britons are leaving their employ, apparently at the instigation of Japanese-controlled puppet organisations.

In Tientsin, the Japanese exuberantly claim that so many Chinese have left their employment in the British Concession that British factories are unable to continue operating.

In Tsingtao the entire Chinese staff of the British Consulate has resigned. Similarly, Chinese employees at private homes are also quitting.

Missions "Blockaded"

In Honan and Shansi province, so many Chinese employees of Missions are said to have quit work that, in some cases, it has been found impossible to arrry on work at schools and hospitals.
