Pate Issues Clarion Nobody To Take Over Don Budge's Position In The American Team

As matches in the European Zone of the Davis Cup com- petition are now in progress, the following article on the prospects of the United States, holdere of the trophy, should be of interest. The Challenge Round will be played in September and the Ameri- can authorities are already making preparations for the en- counter.

New York, April 7.

Walter Pato, the little man who led the Davis Cup back to those shores two years ago, has issued a clarion call for volunteers to step one pace to the fore and lond a hand in rotaining the famous trophy.

There are a few other possibilities. Fate is Joe Hunt, a midshipman at An- napolis is one. Pate has hopes of shaking him out his uniform for the Cup 'bouts, but no one knows if he will be able to stay in top form while sticking to the Academy's strict schedule.
