Here is a good foundation recipe for u meringue:

Take 3 large egg whites, lea- spoon salt, -teaspoon cream of tartar, 1 cup castor sugar, 1 teaspoon vinegar, 1 teaspoon water, I teaspoon vanilla.

Add the salt and cream of tartar to egg whites, and beat to a stiff but no dry form. Add sugar by table- spoonfuls at first, alternately with the liquids mixed together. Then beat in the rest of the sugar ult it is well blended, and the mixture has good"piling" quality.

Spread it on an 0-0 inch well- greased glass plate. Spread higher at the rim, but keep it 1-1 inches thick in the centre. Bake in a very slow oven (225 degs F.) for 1 hour.
