CINEMA SCREENINGS

NOTES SUPPLIED BY THE THEATRES

The Screen Guild, an organization formed in Hollywood for the purpose of sponsoring the finer type of photo. plays, has issued its first certificate Df excellence to "Man's Castle" the Columbia picture, having a final showinger to-day at, the Queen's Theatre. It was chosen from more thinn abc hundred scenarion, and nanuscripts submitted to the 'Guild's Judging committee by all the Holly- wood studios. The colebrated Frank Borzage was assigned a director. Borzng Ys the director who won the. prizes for having turned out the boat picture of 1828 in “Seventh Heaven", and the best of 1932 in "Bad Girl", These prizes wem awarded by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and, Sciences. M. C. Lever, president of the Screen Gulld, was formerly prest- dent of the Academy and is still ona of its active members. He is highly enthusinatie over "Man's Castle" "It is a beautiful story, and under Frank Borzage's masterly direction In bound to stand out among tho year's production," he said. "Duri Guild insignia on a picture will na- sure the public that it is well worth seeing. We sought for months for the highest possible class of story to endorse, and at last we have found It". The story has several of the qualities of "Seventh Henven". It has a squalidly romantic background, and deals with a boy and girl gripped by an overpowering love. Spencer Tracy and Loretta Young are the two players who play these important roles. A matchless supporting cast. appear in featured parts

Glenda Farrell, Arthur Kohl, Walter Con- nolly, Marjorie Rambeau, and Dickie Moore,

"Gold Diggers of 1933"

A new type of fim dramın! That is what has been created by the Warner Brothers production of "Gold Diggers of 1933" which will be screened at the Oriental Theatre on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Thie type of picture had its forerunner in 42nd Street" but “Gold Diggers" is said to entirely eclipse it in the sheer forces of its drama, in comedy situa- tions, ita catchy song hits and the novelty and beauty of its gigantic and spectacular dance ensembles. The production carries an all storenst which includes Warren William, Joan Blondell Aline MacMahon, Ruby Keoler, Dick Powell, Guy Kibbee, Ned Sparks and Ginger Rogers. Two hun- dred chorus girls are a part of the elaborate, mobile sets. The brilliant new dance and song conceptions were created and staged by the famous niusical comedy producer, Bushy Berkeley. The music and lyrics, are by the famous team of Harry Warren and Al Dublin, who wrote the song hits in 42nd Street."

"Little Miss Marker"

Revealing the softer side of a lot of otherwise hard Broadway charne- ters, Dantun Runyou's papular magaz- ine story. "Little Miss Marker," directed for Paramount by Alexander Hall, is now at the King's Theatre. Adolphe Menjou, Dorothy Dell, Charles Bickford and five-your-old Shirley Temple have the principal Toles, while the supporting cast in cludes Lynne Overman and Jack Shechan, Broadway stage stars who make their Hollywood screen debut in this film, and Frank McGlynn Sr., Sam Hardy, Tammany Young, War- ren Hymer and Craufurd Kent, The screen play is credited to William R. Lupman, Sam Hellman and Gladys : Lehman.

"Glamour"

The age-old problem of "the eternal triangle" is presented in a new light in "Glamour", the Universal drajna which comes to the King's Theatre on Tuesday. Constance Cummings, Paul Lukas and Phillip Reed play the characters at three points of the love; triangle, in Eila Ferbor's story. In the picture Miss Cummings, the wife of Paul Lukas, is a theatrical star, and a new romance enters her life when Reed is engaged as her leading man. Several original songs are in- troduced by Reed "Glamour", and there are also alluring dance special- Ries during the unfolding of the plot. The most rhythmic of these is the Rhumba Exotic, danced by Reed and Miss Cummings to especially com- posed music. Put "Glamour" down on your list of the new pictures which you simply must not fail to sec, and prepare to enjoy a sophisticated sreenplay.

While advertising is a powerful force in educating as to the uses, merits or money saving advantages of a product, the people are the judges when they make their first purchase. "Delivering the goods" is what they demand, and the scrap heap of failures is piled with goods that could not stand the test of public judg- ment. 'ASPRO' messages are carefully planned to prove what ‘ASPRO' can do to alleviate pain and suffering, and the reason of its success through- out the civilised world is simple, because it fulfils. all claims made for it. WHATEVER !

We live in an age when so many different foodstuffs (and real beer is

a food come under the magic wand of the scientist. There is synthetic this, and synthetic that, and even synthetic BEER !

In many cases, the explanation is in the desire to produce an imitation of a certain article at a price below that of the genuine product, or to produce in bulk with the minimum of effort.

A REALLY GOOD BEER MUST BE MADE ACCORDING TO TRADITION. The ingredients must be the finest of their kind, and the brewing the work of experts. It is because of its genuine excellence that--
