Discussion ensued as to the value of a report concerning an explosion at Home, whon the experts, held a alvergence of views as to the possibili ty of gas being ignited in the manner described. Witness said that in an extract he read in Engineering, dated 1931, a periodical inspection of gas- holders was recommended, also their Insurance and contracts. The Government Analyst. Mr. V. C. Branson, said that on May 30 he was given a packet containing doposit taken from the gasometer and asked to analyse it. He found it to consist of 22 per cent, water and volatile material; five per cent. ally-Photography which have been already matter; 36.6 per cent. iron and an equal amount of oxide, sulphide, and water mixed up.

Some of the dry depealt might have come from paint, though it would have to have been a large quantity of paint. It might quite easily be corrosion of iron.

Mr. H. E. Stone said that oxide of iron was used for the purification of the tank, but he did not suggest that this got inside,
