Ramon Novarro and Jeanette Mac- Donald, two of the screen's foremost mantic singing stars, are united ut the Queen's and Alhambra Theatres In one of the really memorable photo- plays of the year. It is "The Cat and the Fiddle," which, as you probably | The Stennisbip, surmise, has nothing whatever to do with cats and very little with fiddler,

in high romance flavoured with the most glorious music of recent heart-drama and spiced with some of years. The picture is inemorable for several reasons. First, perhaps, he cause it gives romantic Ramon Novar. ro an opportunity to really make love in that whimsically delightful way that overy woman adores. Second, bo cause it gives Jeanette MacDonald her first really romantia role; she wan scenes with Chelvaller in recent flims, but not until now has she been given an opportunity to demonstrate her amaz ing emotional depth. I bolleve South's original bid of one club is correct. North makes a one-over-one force of one dia-perhaps it should have been first- because "The Cat and the Fiddla" ombodies Buch glorious harmony that, when Ramon and Jeanetto sing it, it will linger in memory for many a day. The music is interpolated into the production in such doft fashion that one has the feeling it is "motivat- ed," that it advances rather than re-signed by tarde the action of the plot. There is a reason for every song, although such maale, frankly, would be welcome without any more reason than its own beauty. Such Bongs as "The Night Was Made for Love," "She Didn't Say Yes," "One Moment Alone," "A New Love In Old," "The Love Parado," Try to Forget," are heard during the picture. Most of them are sung by Novarro and Miss MacDonald," but Vivicane Segnl's lovely soprano voire in n distinct hit, as in the voice of a newemer, Earl Oxford.
