BERLIN STATEMENTS.
Berlin, Aug.' 29. In connexion with the Amlinger affair. the Ministry of Defence has issued statements saying that Captain Amlinger left the service a year ago and had not since been connected with the Reichswehr and had not received any in- structions from any Department of the Reichswehr to go to Russia. The affair has renewed the rumour, which has been officially denied, that General Heyes' re signation as Commander-in-Chief of the Reichswehr was due to in trigues by other Generals who favour close military co-operation between Gormany and Russia- Reuter.
An earlier message dealing with the affair stated:
London, Aug. 29., The sensational suicide of Frau Elfriede Amlinger, by leaping from an aeroplane on the way to Erfurt from Frankfurt, on which she was a passenger, is likely to lead to a political scandal in Germany, with a repercussion in France.
