Shanghai, May 1. News has been received here of the experiences suffered by a German resident of Foochow, who was thrown into a Chinese prison as the sequel to an at- tempted deal in arms by the authorities with the man's pre- decessor.

His Worship intimated that the prosecution had to prove intent to commit a felony and remarked that he did not think climbing over a wall to steal some brass was
