RAISING OF SUBSCRIPTION
AGREED TO. i.
The annual general meeting of the Hongkong Philharmonie So- cięty was held in St. John's 'Hall last avoning. There was a large attendance of members.
Professor W. Brown, M.A., B.Sc., was re-elected. President, and the following officers were elected for the ensuing year:
WOMEN WARNED.
INQUEST INTO YOUNG AMAH'S DEATH.
The obvious untruthfulness of two Chinese women giving evidence at a Coroner's enquiry 'yesterday into the death of an amah named Ah Young Wun Hau, at Kennedy Road, on September 19, caused the Coroner (Mr. A. W. G. H Grantham) to warn both.
Hon. Conductor, Mr. W. H. Fitz-Earle A.R.C.M.; K.O.S.B. ;
Dr. Alexander Canrion said that Hon. Producer, Mrs. F. G. Hunt: on examination of the body of de- ceased he found that her head had. son's programme and shall make connexion all arrangements in with the performances and ra- hearsals.'"
Mr. Richards explained that this alteration was necessary
to en: able the committee to carry out its duties. On previous occasions the matter of programmes had been submitted to a general meeting, which once had turned down the whole of the committee's recom- mendations. In the best interests of the Society he thought the amondment should operate. The meeting voted in favour of the amendment.
Subscriptions. Raised.
In view of the period of finan- cial reverse through which the Society has passed a motion on the agenda provided for an in- crease in subscriptions, bringing them up to $4 for gentlemen and $3 for ladies.

Ah Yeung Wai, 16, amah, of 90 Kennedy Road, sister of the dead woman, said that on the night of September 19 she had been out shopping and returned about 9 p.m. She went upstairs to look for de- ceased and mot her eldest sister, Ah Yeung Ho, who told her the girl was probably downstairs. After a search, she found the body of her sister lying in a downstairs room. A chopper was lying at her feat.
-
Mr. Grantham: Was she hold ing the chopper?-No she was not holding it.
Blood on Hands. Continuing, witness said that she called out "Save life." Her mis- tress, Sam Tai, came along and saw the body. Witness wanted to use the telephone, but Sam Tai told her not to do ag.Afterwards an electrician, engaged in some work at the house, came and rang up the police. Witness then told a con- fused story about having been given some medicine by Sam Tai and
An amendment to this motion, making the subscription $5 for both ladies and gentlemen, wastated that she had seen the gar- dener at the house with blood on proposed, and was carried by his hands. When she saw him he large majority. ·
Professor Brown said that he appreciated the honour that had been bestowed on him. He for casted a successful year for the Society, They were fortunate, hej said, in having the advantage of a professional conductor and a pro- fessional producer. Mr. Fitz Earle was well-known as a pro- fessional man, holding as he did a responsible and busy position in Hongkong. Mrs. Hunt had stage experience, and he could refer to her as an ex-professional. He doubted if any other Philharmonic Society was so fortunate. It had sertainly never happened before in. Hongkong, and probably would never happen again.
The Professor advised all-mem- bers to exercise patience during rehearsals, and cheerfully to obey the instructions of the producer and other officers of the Society. It went against human nature, he knew, to be dragooned when you had arrived at rehearsal after a
hard day's work, but they muet realise that it was all for the good the society, and very necessary. They should also try and be cheerful when, after they had been tried out for a part, and had done their best, that part was allotted to someone else. They should rest assured, however, that the method of judging for parts was most democratic, and the best man or woman won. There was no favouritism."
On a vote of thanks to the Pre- sident, the meeting closed.
was washing the blood off.
Mr. Grantham: Do you know what happens to people who do not tell the truth in the witness box?
Witness did not, reply, but later said that what she had said was not true. Sam Tai, her mistress, had told her to say certain things about her sister, but they were not true. Sum Tai told her that she would get into trouble with the police if she said that she was a full sister to deceased. She did not like Sum Tai, who scolded her.

Sister's Story.
On leaving the box, the girl eat with her head in her hands, but whether she was crying or had merely fallen asleep was difficult to ascertain.
Ah Young Ho, 29, amab, sister to deceased and to the previous wit- ness, said that she had been em- ployed in the same building as de- ceased in Kennedy Road. At pre- sent she was unemployed. She left her work in September be cause her sister was murdered in
the houser
!
Mr. Grantham: Who murdered her?-Nobody saw it, otherwise she would not have been murdered. Witness said that her sister would not have killed herself as she had eaten several bowls of rice that night.
Mr. Grantham.-She wouldn't waste the rice?

If baby is under weight it is probable that he is, not digesting the food which he gets.. ""Lactogen" is famous among doctors and nurses for the case with which the most delicate baby can digest it
You can't ask a baby how he is or how he' feels. But there are certain signs. He should be content to lie on his back. He should sleep well. Above all, every week he should put on a little weight.
All these signs have followed, onc after the "other, in thousands of troubled, fretful babies who have been put by their wise mothers on "Lactogen”.
And the reason why "Lactogen” su ceeds often when everything else has failed. is simply this. It is pure rich farm milk-every drop pourish. ment but-and this is the point it does not form hard lumps in the stomach.
Instead it forms light flakes and is therefore so digestible that any baby can take it and profit from it" and thrive on it.
