Much interest will be aroused by an announcement made to-day that Major H.O.D. Segrave, the famous racing motorist, will make his off. elai attempt to recapture the world's land-speed record for Great Bri- tain at Daytona Beach on March 6th, that is, Wednesday next week.

It is disclosed in British Wire less message received this morning that Major Segrave took, his great Napier angined car The Golden Arrow out for a trial spin yester day, and it is significant that he at- tained a speed of 180 miles an hour on his first test on three-quarter throttle.

London, Feb. 20. Mr. Gwilyn Rowlands, a working man who spent many years in a coal mine in Wales, was to-day elect- ed Chairman of the Council of the National Union of Conservative

millionaire, Colonel Gretton.

Mr. Rowlands comes from

Rhondda Valley, which is noted for its extremò Socialist elements. He was proposed as Chairman by Mr. Davidson, Chairman of the Party, was seconded by Lady Iveagh, member of Parliament, and was alacted unanimously by the seven hundred delegates pro- sent.
