medien men he thought their hosis. would have prepared the dishes in such a way that one cour would give immunity to the other but he found the reverse. Whatever his colleagues would have to say about Le sumptuous meal the next day, he felt a full clinical report would not cover their complaints.
Dr. Strahan then in a few' well chosen words said that the British Medical Association was not therb to maintain their rights but to up- hold the standard of Western mediche. He also felt Kure that co-operation with the Chinese praç- titioners would be most beneficial to the Colony!

Dr. W. V. M. Since he left he saw several of his students passed out. He thought that they would strike out to the four corn- ora of China and instal Western Medical science there, but he found inglead that they are all leve, stick- ling close to the alma mater,

Replying: Dr. Phoon Seek Wing said that the sentiments expiressed isad convinced him that the Chinese Medical Association would' always have the support and good- will of the British Association. The chief aim of the Chinese As- sociation was to foster the scien- (tie spirit, to promote social In- ftercourse and to encourage public
service.
Dr. Phoon felt sure that in a Colony like Hongkong where the major part of the inhabitants were Chinese, the Chinese doctors would be most useful in carrying reforma ainong their own countrymen,

ST. GEORGE'S DAY.
LIABILITY FOR RENT.
IMPORTANCE OF LETTER..
A question as to liability for Tent was raised in the Summary Court yesterday afternoon when. Wong Chat surd Mak Wab-tuen and Mrs, Mak Yau-man for $134.60 in respect of two months' rent for No. 1 Sing Iling Street, ground floor. Mr. F. H. Loseby was for thỏ plaintiff and the defondants conducted their own case.
Mr. Loseby explained that the dufendants were mother and son and the former's husband died last year. On the date of his death there were only two mora days to go before the rent became due from the husband for that month but after the man's death the son wrote a letter to the land- lord intimating that they would quit the premises at the end of the firet moon of this Chinese year. The defendants vacated the pre- mises after that second month was passed and they therefore be camo liable for two months' cent, one month being when the father died and the other the following, month.
Mr. Loseby. "argued that the father was the tenant of the house in law and the 'dofendants would not be liable under ordinary jelrcumstances but they had made themselves executors do aon 'tort, by interfering with the affairs. of the dead husband.
Following evidence as to the facts the case was adjourned to enable Mr. Lonely to search the court library for authorities bear- ing out his contention,
