The above picture shows the magificient lifesize bronze Honess which has lately attracted many sightseers to Messrs. Kom and Komor'a window. The figure, which was mo delled by Sinnin, celebrated Japanese seulptor, has just heen sold to a Hongkong resident for $2,500, and so remains in the Colony. It is a truly notable work of art.

IMPORTANCE OF LETTER..
A question as to liability for Tent was raised in the Summary Court yesterday afternoon when. Wong Chat surd Mak Wab-tuen and Mrs, Mak Yau-man for $134.60 in respect of two months' rent for No. 1 Sing Iling Street, ground floor. Mr. F. H. Loseby was for thỏ plaintiff and the defondants conducted their own case.
Mr. Loseby explained that the dufendants were mother and son and the former's husband died last year. On the date of his death there were only two mora days to go before the rent became due from the husband for that month but after the man's death the son wrote a letter to the land- lord intimating that they would quit the premises at the end of the firet moon of this Chinese year. The defendants vacated the pre- mises after that second month was passed and they therefore be camo liable for two months' cent, one month being when the father died and the other the following, month.
Mr. Loseby. "argued that the father was the tenant of the house in law and the 'dofendants would not be liable under ordinary jelrcumstances but they had made themselves executors do aon 'tort, by interfering with the affairs. of the dead husband.
