CONSTABLE'S EYES BLACKENED.

Wong Kan, an unemployed Chinese, was again brought before Mr. B. W. Hamilton, at tho Kow- loon Magistracy yesterday after noon, on a charge of robbing with! violonce, at No. 017 Shanghai Street, on the 4th inst.

A Chinese detective stated that on the Oth. inst. he wont to Tae Ma Yuen with" an informer. Tho Inttar told him to wait outside a small but while ho went in. Ho Inter came out and told the constable that defendant Wan io. the hut gambling. Defendant was described to the constable, who was told that when ha CAMO out, ho (tho informer) would wink at witness, who was to arrest him at once. Shortly afterwards tho people in the hut began to leave. Whon defendant emerged the signal was given and witness went up to him and seized him. Defendant` `was told that he was wanted by the Inspector and that he would have to arcompany witness to the polico Atation. Accused then showed fight and it was not till another constable, whose attention was attracted by witness's' whistle, came

on tho scono and gave assistance, that defendant was arrested and taken to the police station.. Wilnor had both his eyca blackened and defendant was slightly scratched.

After being cautioned defondant was asked, through the interproter, if he wanted to call any witnesses to give evidence at his trial. Ho replied that he would like to call the Court interpreter as a witness for the dofouce,

tecused was committod for trial at Ahedune Criminal Sessions.
