profit already declared totala over- $1,500,000 and the number of employees is more than 3,000. The total number of spindles in Juse is 25,000. The company is planning to open tv o branches at Tangshan (Chikli) and Ho Jan. 12,000 more spiad'ss have been ordered from abroad and ground expansion is contemplated. The Shibobiatsun Cotton Mill was established by the Chili Provin-*- cial Government by the appro- priation of $1,000,000 from the Bank of Chihli.. A special school | for training workmen in spłaning has been established. The total number of spindles is 10,000.

NEW WIRELESS STATION AT
TSINGTAO.
The new wireless station at Tsingtao' construction work on which was begun by the Japanese military authorities late last win- er, will be ready for operation early in November, Situated on a low point at the southern end of Tsingtao Harbour, the station has four masts, two of steel and over 400 feet in height, and two of wood, which are considerably lower. The station will be able to receive messages from sny part of the world, while its radins of transmission will cover all of Japan and the Philippine Islands. Japanese officials at Teingt 10 have stated that the new station, although primarily erected for the use of the military, will receive and transmit commercial messages.
WOOL IN SHASTING Tsingtao is gradually becoming a centre of wool exportation, with |Japan as principal importer. The
producing districts are along the Shantung Railway, the best being Chingchow, Tzechwan. Posban. Chowtsang, and Ankin. Is the western part of the province, Liatsing, Tungping. Taian, Men gyin, and Yichow we the wool producing districts. No reliable statistics on the provincial output are available, bur, calculating on the number of sheep raised in the province, exports of the last few years, and the local consumption, the following figures are approx- imately indicative of the pre- sent trade: Average anouai production, 1,000,000 catties; local consumption, 200,000 catties; ex- ports (Tientsin). 450,000 catties (Tsingtao). 350,000 catties. The number of sheep in Shantung is stated to be in the neighbourhood of 500,000, each of which is sop posed to yield two catties of wool in two thearings every year. Wool is locally consumed for the manufacturer of hats, soles. rugs and socks.
