NEW COMMERCIAL MONOPLANE

A new commercial monoplane will shortly be used on the London-Paris service. This ma- " chine, designed by De Haviland, will have accommodations for 8 passengers, and a 450 b.p. Napier engine will give it a speed of about 130 miles per hour. Arrange- ments have been made where- by certain post-offices in London and some of the more important towns in the provinces are pra- pared to receive daily parcels intended for dispatch by airplane to Paris. An airplane will leave Croydon airdrome daily at 10.30 aux and will reach Paris abus 216 hours later. Under present arrangements several days usual- ly elapse between the dispatch of

parcel from London and its delivery in Paris.

TRANSATLANTIC FLYING SHIPS.

According to the Daily Mail, the Fairey Company, builders for the British Air Ministry of the great Titania flying boats, have in band plans for giant Trans- atlantic flying ships, driven by

•ispecially designed 4,000 horse- power engines, which will have luxurious accommodation for as many as 100 passengers, în addi- tion to fual, crew, and stores. They will, in fact, be air liners, with great bulls which, seen with- out their wings, one might mis- take for some specially designed craft for use on the surface of the water. Starting from the lower reaches of the Thames, such vessels will be able to make a non-stop flight to New York ia very little more than 40 hours; while calculations which have just been made show that with a sufficient fert, well patronized, the fare by flying ship should be little, if any, more than by steam- ship. Conditions in the flying ships will approximate simos) exactly to those of first-class steamship travel. Guided on their course by directional wire- less, informed in advance of weather changes, and with a motive plant which is practically immune from the risk of break- down, they will offer not only speed and comfort bot also safety.
