JAPAN'S IRON INDUSTRY.
From the 10th financial year of Taisbo (1921), says the Asahi, the Tawata Ironworks bare been authorised to borrow money to the amount of 198,000,000 from the Financial Department, as they fear that they will run short of working funds. in spite of the sum of Y60,000,000 already receir- ed. The Osaka paper understands from the perspicuous remarks by Ur. Nakazawa, Vice-President of the Government Ironworks, that they act as far as possible policy of not borrowing MODRY.
Nevertheless, as the Ironworks authorities, irc'uding Mr. Shirani, the President bold that the present iron depression will last for at least five or six year, they will make themselves responsible during the next five years for Y300,000,000 to T400, 100,000, borrowing Y60,000,000 to TS0,000,000 a year.

The claims of the petition are, that (1) the Labour Guild must be recognised by the works; (2) the present nine-hour working day must be shortened to eight hours; (3) the daily wages to be io- creased by 50 sen per head. equal to those paid in the
