Striking Figures.
The position of certifitcaed officers is strikingly illustrated by the return of the employment bureau of the Mercantile Marine Service Association, which shows, for the third quarter of the paat year, no less than 131 applications for Masters, Officers and appreл- ices. The continued dearth of Officers is illustrated by the fact that only 9 masters and 20 officers *** registered thoir names in the books of the Assocation in the aame period as seeking engage-
ments.
