The prisoner discover- ed that upon the outbreak of hostilities' with Russia, Mayeda was quite indifferent and remained in Vladivostok, despite the fact that all other Japanese left there. In addition to this be applied for permission to be naturalised an a Russian subject, and adopted the Christian faith (Greek Church), Krenuously endeavouring by all these means to court the favour of the Russiáni, After the restoration of peace, be continued to work for the Oriental Language School as be fore, and subsequentir became naturalised as a Russian, for which, is already stated, he had made application.
