"HE Company's Steamship THE

is. 7.466.52, of which we poppie, to write "off" In7,000, to construction account and carry forward to new account Tis. 466.52,21 think, gentlemen, that is all need remark about the accounts, but I would wish to say a.. few words regarding what has been done dur ing the last year in our business." Reviewing: the work done by the mill during last year, we find that the first months ware fairly satisfactory both from the working point of the mill and the financial results obtained thereby. After the first quarter of the year, work had to be stopped at intervals to allow of the erection of machi. nery in connexion with the reconstruction of the mill. The directors had bopes that the re- contraction would be carried through by the time at which the new crop was expected to be available for milling purposes. However, this could not be carried through the grecilos of the machinery and especially the erection, of the

new steam power plant look considerably. more time than expected. When the recon struction had been finished it was found that the foods which are responsible for the famine. now raging in our neighbouring provinces had played such havoc with the wheat Crop that the price of wheat rose to a prohibitiva figure and that moreover the quality of wheat available was unfit for milling pur- pases. It will easily be understood that working under such adverse circumstances, the directors and the staff of the mill have had most anxious time during the year under re view. As regards the reconstruction of the mill and the new steam power plant the direct ors are pleased to report that their expectations have been fully justified. The quality of the flour shows a marked improvement and this is readily recognized by our buyers. We may 1316 safely say that our first grade of flour is now at good as any imported flour and better than the best grades of flour turned out by local_mille. The steam power plant is on the most modern lines and has proved such a success that in spite of the addition of milling machinery, we are now able to use ope buiter only thereby making a consider able saving in fuel. The directors afforded the shareholders an opportunity of ascertaining for themselves the grant improvements arrived by inviting them to the mils towards the ends of last year, and I may safely say that those shareholders, who avalled themselves of the opportunity were wall satisfied. If the fact is taken into consideration that during last year, the mill worked only about 100 foll, days it is not surprising to find that a dividend for last year is out of the question. It is anybow gratifying to Gad that from the results obtaine ed we are able to propose to write off already from, reconstraction account,Tl9,000.00 the balance of Tis 8,060 85 will, bay written off soon as circumstances permit. With regard to your stock of flour offals, etc., may tell you that it has found boyer since the stocksaklog at prices very considerably above those at which they were valued on December 31. The mill is working calisfactorily now with a fair margin of profil. In conclusion I should like to express our thanks to the able and hard work done by our bead miller, Mr. Watson, and his staff.; Since the accounts" hara beed, closed,, I am happy to be able to inform you, the entire pro Huction of the mill until the middle of Mat has been sold at a fair margin of profit.
