THE LATE REV. HODGES.
As announced in our telegram columns on Monday the Rev. H. C. Hodges, M.A., of Shang- hai, died suddenly on Friday last from cholera, The Shanghai Afercury of 16th inst, says:
Early this morning the news of the suddeo death of an old resident and: an indefatigable worker in the cause of good in all directions came as a shock to the majority of ti e residents of Shanghai and brought sadness to the heart of numerous friends. We are alluding to the late Rev. H. C. Hodges, M.A., incumbent of the Holy Trinity Cthedral To all appearances Mr. Hodges, though not in the best of health, bid displayed, no symptoms as to cause any anxiety and up to his demise had followed his vocation in his usual manner. The morning
however we beard of his death from heart failure. Mr. Hodgen was educated at Cambridge and came to China in 1886. He always evinced à keen interest in all out-door sports and was himself a sportsmin of no mean order. In fact, at his University he distinguished himself both Af cricket and football.
