The Chief Justice refused to grant the injunction. From what had been put before him, seemed that he had to decide which of the memories of the parties concerned he was entitled to believe most. If plaintiff greeted defendant, as stated above, defendant would be justified in believing that Mr. Addis waived any right he might have had under the agreement. Plaintif did not deny absolutely that this took place. Defendant's statement was not completely contradicted by plaintiff and there were, farther, three witnesses who sup- ported it. As the matter was now before him. the weight of evidence was clearly in favour of defendant and if there were nothing further forthcoming when the action came on for trial, it did not appear to him that the plaintif was likely to succeed.--Straits Times.
COAL HOIST EXPERIMENTING:
Burma is at present the Buddhist country par excellence, and shough its Buddhist is mixed up with much that is alien to its spirit, it is the purest and most orthodox to be found now any. where. And in this is to be found the very reason why the plague has not yet spread in Buba. At least this is the opinion of our Burmese friend, who takes his stand on the teal movement of the revival of Baddhism in this country for the past few years. For, says he, the people at large, in towns and in villages, revere more than ever the three jewels "the Buddha, the Law and the Clergy." The vinues possidered greatest in Buddhism, that is charily, purity and Bhavan, or the

The hoist in question is a dredger contrivance which scoops out the coal and shoots it into boat or on to a jetty. Special madifications, it is stated, are required on a ship for the fitting or working of the hoist. At Rangoon where the present record was esta blished, it is well-known that ships anchor alongside a jetty in the river. The Times of Ceylon, in noting this, says that, in Colombo, circumstances which obtain are very different and night not give such satisfactory results.
