EFFORTS TO GET À STRONG FOOTHOLD FOR TRADE.
A ROUTH ACROSS PERSIAL NG
The third route of direct communication from Russia to China is by way of a Russian railway connecting its system in the south of Russia croas Persin with the Persian Gulfand the waters of the Indian Ocean. Two railway routes are, according to accent reports projected across. Persia by the Russian Government, which, it is said, has obtained from the Persian Government, a concession of certain ports nu the Persian Gulf and privileges of adway con striction from the horders of Russia through Eastern Persia, to- those ports. One of these proposed lines, according to the published with the port of Bander Abbas, on the Persian reports, connects Russia's trans-Caspin system Gulf, while the other, upon which it is said the surveyors are now at work, runs through Western Persia, also connecting the trans- Caspain riilway system with the head of the Persian Gulf If these reports be true, it would appear that Russia is about to realize her long cherished ambition of a direct butlet to the Indian Ocean, connecting there with a water transportation system to the Orient,
