THE V. R. C. AQUATIC SPORTS,

PRESENTATION OF PAIZRE, The prizes won at the recent Aquatle Sports at the Victoria Recreation Clab were presentat by Mr A. P. MacEwen in the Cldb Gymnastum yesterday? afiarnoon in the presence of larga hombre of members and their friends. Camd: WC.H, Hastings, R. N., (haleman of the Clob, lo calling upon Mr. MicEwen, said that gentleman was one of the oldest members of the Clab and his name figured on one of the boards in the room as a competitor many years ago. There were glants in those daya and Mr. Mac- E-en was one of them. He had prevented the cup for the champlon bio of the colony, which showed that he still took a great interest in the welfare of the Institution.

Mr. MacEwen wald-Captulo Havings and gentlemen, I think the presence of such a large assemblage here this afternoon shows the great interest, that is taken by the community generally lo this popular club. The sports were the best that have been held in the colony for several years and the attendance was also the largest. (A - please) I think' the latrađuction of military Teams in the water polo competition was a great,

accent, and the play is the lle hetween the Club premier team and the members of the West Yorkshire Regiment was one of the krenent fiebts I have seen, and I have heard several ex sessed opinions in the colony, that it

would give pleasure if another match could be arranged. (Applease.) I think that Mr. Alves, Mr. Carvalho, and Mr. Lapsley are sil to be con- gratolated on their susters—(+pplause)—and it is tal

Considering the unfavourable and unhealthy. condition of the bathing slie and the tamble. down state of the premies the ( lub bas shown great vitality. I am given to understand that there are 500 members of this Club. I do not think that the inbecription in the Club is very heart, namely to a year. There is another gond print, and that is, there is no class diating. lon, (Applaus.) All respectable members of the communly are eligible for election. (Appliare.) I do not suppose any of us come ont to climate like this for change of air or the benefit of ear health, and the best way to ensure that health is by indulging in the exercises that the Club afford là the way of wrin ming, rowing, and gymsailles. Thanks to the steady advocacy of His Excellency the Governor and Commodore Holland, both of whom warmly encourage manly pastimes in the colony, I am informed that the new reclamation cause any change of site-(applause)—1 reheme of the Admiralty -la nat lik-l to
