Public Affairs

"Insight" continued to dominate the Public Affairs scene and under the experienced guidance of Wendy Barnes covered a variety of subjects, such as the drug scene and the Independent Commission Against Corruption. The "Insight" team earned great credit in particular for the day-long coverage of the General Election in U.K. in March 1974. This Marathon programme with up-to-the-minute news reports interspersed with live comments from observers in U.K. and in Hong Kong lasted for 24 hours.

"Time To Remember" continued its gentle enquiry into the lives and work of residents and visitors. Wendy Barnes as the interviewer demonstrated that she is unequalled in her abilities to draw out an individual. Among the year's celebrities interviewed by Wendy were Sir Hugh Greene, Lord and Lady Lindsay, Sir Dingle Foot, Sir Alistair Blair Kerr and Lady Fung Ping Fun.
Serious Music
20.
This section which continued to be run by Clive Simpson produced a steady 55 hours of serious music a week, most of which was transmitted on RHK-4. Performances by local artists and orchestras were broadcast live from the City Hall. There were also live broadcasts and recordings of distinguished visitors to Hong Kong such as The Karensky Trio, The German Chamber Ensemble, The Julliard String Quartet, The London Symphony Orchestra and The Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

A programme making use of RHK's extensive and increasingly valuable archive materials was "From The Archives". Produced by John Charles, this programme enabled the devotees of serious music to hear original versions of their favourite music, many of which are no longer commercially available.

Programmes well established in popularity continued to be produced such as Clive Simpson's "Music Magazine" and Bernard Lewis' "Opera Night". Unfortunately for Hong Kong's music lovers, Bernard Lewis retired to the U.K. at the end of 1973 and his great musical knowledge was sadly missed.
