Cantonese Opera

13.

These operas were the work of RHK's own Lung Cheung Opera Company and with the help of Urban Council, public performances by this talented group of actors and musicians were increased from four to seven a month. During the Festival of Hong Kong 1973 (24th November-2nd December, 1973), traditional Cantonese operas by the Lung Cheung Opera Company were staged at various parks and playgrounds.

"Enquiry"

A series which made use of the opinions of authori- ties and experts involved in a particular issue. The programme looked at pornography, air pollution, female drug addiction and rising prices among other things. There were also twice daily transmissions of topical events which gave the audience up-to-the-minute information and background to the news.

Religion

All religious programmes were broadcast on RHK-2 and were divided turn and turn about between the various denominations.

Sport

The Chinese Radio Service had a large audience at all times but it was never so high as when a major soccer match was being covered. Commentaries were made with considerable skill and knowledge by three soccer veterans whose verbal dexterity had a lot to do with the success of the broadcasts.

ENGLISH RADIO SERVICE (RHK-3 and RHK-4

Despite staff shortages and the need to transfer experienced staff to the Television Service, standards of the English Radio Service continued to improve and care was taken to ensure that minority tastes were adequately catered for.
