circuits to the two commercial stations to improve drive and equaliza- tion and also allow for return circuits from the two stations.

63. The installation of the Sondor film/sound dubbing equipment was completed. A closed circuit industrial camera was fitted to one of the machines and the necessary equipment fabricated to allow remote display of footage counting on the associated TV monitors.

64. Simultaneous interpretation equipment was installed by Govern- ment in the Legislative Council Chamber and the old microphone installation used for outside broadcasts from there was dismantled. Simultaneous interpretation equipment now feeds both English and Chinese for broadcasting purposes.

Golden Hill Transmitting Station

65. During May 1972, there were a number of violent thunder- storms together with extremely heavy rain. The medium wave trans- mitting mast at Golden Hill was struck on several occasions by lightning and damage occurred. Due to the lightning the control and modulation lines to the station were also affected and reliance had to be placed completely at certain times on FM links. Although damage occurred and the transmitters went off the air for brief periods on several occasions little broadcast time was lost. Interruptions to both AM services throughout the year totalled 2 hours 56 minutes.

Mount Gough Transmitting Station

66. Heavy thunderstorms and torrential rain occurred during June 1972. Lightning struck the FM station at Mount Gough on several occasions resulting in the Chinese FM Service being off the air for 15 minutes on the 16th June and both FM Services being interrupted for 18 minutes on the same day. The storms did not affect the New Territories generally and consequently the Golden Hill AM transmitting station carried on without interruption. Interruptions to both FM services throughout the year totalled 1 hour 38 minutes.

Radio Hong Kong Television

67. Televison technical operations increased throughout the year as more and advanced programmes were undertaken.

68. Many technical modifications to equipment were carried out in order to improve TV facilities.

69. A second video tape recorder arrived during the year and was installed adjacent to the first one. This second video tape recorder greatly increases our recording and operational facilities.
