Relay Reception

18 hours daily from 6 a.m., Chinese Service. 19 hours daily from 6 a.m., English Service..

56. The receiving station is situated at Mount Butler on Hong Kong Island. During the year a total of 3,996 English (including Voice of America) and 1,252 Chinese programmes were received for direct relay or recording by Radio Hong Kong. This represented an increase of 18.1% in English programmes and 13.5% in Chinese programmes compared with 1966-67. The standard of reception of BBC direct for programmes from 0900-1200 has been fairly good except for the months December to February when Singapore relay was preferred. For programmes from 2200-0030G, however, BBC direct seldom produced reliable results and Singapore relay station also had great difficulty in maintaining good reception during December - February. During this period relays were very often carried by satellite.
