48. Another series also produced in Radio Hong Kong studios, by guitarist Frank FONSECA, featured most of the top guitarists in Hong Kong and also the many uses of the six-string instrument. Visitors here at the time were invited to participate in the series called 'Guitar Club of the Air'.
Section Personnel
49. Ray CORDEIRO, programme supervisor of Light Music, was invited to act as honourary advisor to the first Hong Kong Arts Festival held between February 26 to March 24, and also as adjudicator to the Folk Music Section of the 25th annual Schools Music and Speech Festival in March.
Disc Shows
50. Ashton FARLEY, still the top favourite with teenagers here, broadcasts every afternoon of the week. Bob WILLIAMS takes over from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. with middle-of-the-road type music. Ray CORDEIRO'S 'All The Way With Ray' still draws a large audience, from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. So popular was the show that a L.P. album consisting of favourites from 'All The Way With Ray' was released with very encouraging results.
Talks and Drama
51. A number of well-known books were adapted for radio during the year and broadcast in weekly quarter hour readings. Notable among them were 'Rosie is my Relative' by Gerald DURRELL and 'The Hobbitt' by J. R. R. TOLKIEN. An important series of poetry programmes was arranged and presented by the distinguished Indian poet and journalist Dom MORAES, winner of Oxford University's Hawthornden Prize. In the series, entitled 'Portraits of Poets', Mr. MORAES discussed the life and work of a number of famous poets, many of whom were his personal friends.
52. The first Hong Kong Arts Festival enabled the section to secure the services of the famous Bristol Old Vic Theatre Company during their visit to the Colony. The Company recorded Oscar WILDE'S comedy "The Importance of being Earnest' and this was broadcast in the FM Service. Michael ROTHWELL, a prominent actor in the com- pany, also recorded three poetry programmes which were broadcast in the AM Service.
