Mount Butler Receiving Station

85. During the year under review a total of 1,769 English and 1,459 Chinese programmes were received for direct relay or recording by Radio Hong Kong. The number of English programmes relayed was almost the same as for 1964-65 when an increase was registered due to reception of programmes from the Japanese Broadcasting Corpora- tion in connexion with the Olympic Games. The 1965-66 increase was caused by a greater number of BBC relays.

86. An increase of some 28% over last year's Chinese programmes relayed was due to the introduction of an early morning transmission in Cantonese at 2215 GMT relayed from the BBC Far Eastern Services.

87. Notable world events which were relayed from other stations included the Gemini space flights, world heavyweight boxing matches and the cricket test matches.

88. The standard of reception of the BBC direct was generally fair to good except during the months of November to January when propagation conditions were poor and the BBC Far Eastern Station, Singapore was mainly used for relay purposes.
