On invitation of the United States Government Mr. BROOKS paid an official visit to America on his return journey. He also went to Montreal, Canada to discuss the building of the new Broadcasting House with the architects, Messrs. N. J. Pappas and Associates.
90. During his absence Mr. I. D. KINGSLEY acted as Director, Mr. CHOW Nai-yeung as Assistant Director and Mr. K. P. CHENG as Head of Chinese Programmes.
91. Mr. T. E. JUSON, Producer Class I, went on vacation leave in January, 1966 and whilst on leave he will attend a BBC Television Production Course. Mr. Wyman CHAN, Producer Class I of the Chinese Service, visited Australia in January, 1966 and attended an 8-week Television Production Course with the Australian Broadcasting Com- mission. Mr. L. M. P. KAYE, Announcer, returned from vacation leave in January, 1966 after attending the BBC General Staff Course. Mr. Lo Sai-ping, Producer Class II, of the Chinese Service, was granted two years no-pay study leave to enable him to study for a Master of Arts degree in mass communications at the University of Southern Cali- fornia, Los Angeles.
92. Mr. I. D. KINGSLEY, Acting Director of Broadcasting, and Mr. R. A. WINYARD, Broadcasting Engineer, attended the 2nd General Assembly of the Asian Broadcasting Union held in Tokyo in October 1965. Mr. KINGSLEY was appointed a member of the jury judging entries to the ABU Rural Programme Contest.
93. The Head of English Programmes, Mr. T. A. BIRCH, represented Radio Hong Kong on the inaugural flight of Air New Zealand's new direct service between the Colony and New Zealand in March, 1966. Mr. BIRCH took this opportunity to visit the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation, the Commerce and Industry Department of New Zealand and the Tourist Department collecting suitable material for future broadcasts.
94. On 31st March, 1966, the staff numbered 86, 39 being members of programme sections and the remainder being engaged in executive, clerical and other duties. The technical staff of Cable and Wireless Ltd. employed on broadcasting operations totalled 44. Contributors to the English and Chinese Programme Services numbered approximately 1,500.
