programme entered into its second year stronger with regular appearances on the panel by UMELCO members, and senior government officials who were willing to face an often critical audience in a live situation. Topics ranged from the abortion laws, ICAC and corruption to film censorship, effects of television violence on the young with frequent debates on educational matters that affect parents and children.

'Viewpoint and Angles', the five minute commentary at the end of the news was seen nightly by a combined audience of two and a half million people. The series provided a platform for departmental spokesmen to explain policies, and for independent commentators like Andrew Wong, Dean of Studies, Chinese University and LEE Kwong, financial editor of Wah Kiu Yat Po.

In 'A Matter of Concern', a half hour programme on RTV1, Legislative and Executive Council met the public to explain government policies, the new legislation and to answer questions and grievances from the public. Some of the complaints heard in the programme were later dealt with in the UMELCO Office.

The Friday night 'Police Call' was presented by Billy Kwong, Francis Yim and latterly Chief Inspector KO Po- kwan. The public again were asked to provide information about crimes detailed within the programme.

In 'Junior Police Call' more use was made of location filming particularly to recreate actual crimes which could have been seen by children. Membership of the club increased and the scope of activities widened. Members chose their favourite top television stars who received their awards at a variety show in the City Hall. Spot the stolen car proved a favourite JPC activity and the speed of detection improved to within two hours for almost all those cars that had not been either cannibalised or exported. The programme was presented by Woman Police Constable Sandra Leung and Betty Shum with the help of JPC members.

'More to Know' remained as a popular series of mini documentaries on topics of interest to the teenagers and 'Ching Sun', a monthly series of programmes, was devised to show the activities of the Clean Your City groups with a concentration of effort on beaches, barbecue and picnic areas.
