Deposits by Fire, Marine, and Life Insurance Companies.

24. As at 31st March, 1955, the total amount of deposits made by Insurance Companies with the Registrar of Companies under the Fire and Marine Insurance Companies Deposit Ordin- ance (Cap. 34) was $5,541,207.50, and the total amount of deposits under the Life Insurance Companies Ordinance (Cap. 36) was $1,679,375.00. Tables XI and XII give particulars.

25. Deposits under the Fire and Marine Insurance Com- panies Deposit Ordinance dropped by $608,580.00 during the year, mainly due to the withdrawal of deposits by companies which had complied with the United Kingdom Assurance Com- panies Acts, 1909 to 1946, and had accordingly become exempted under Section 11(1) from having to maintain a deposit.
