PART VIII
AUTHORIZED AUDITORS BOARD
56. During the year under review the Authorized Auditors Board constituted under Section 131A (1) of the Companies Ordinance (Chapter 32), of which the Registrar of Companies is ex officio Chairman, considered a total of twelve applications by auditors for admission to the authorized list, and of these, six were approved for admission to Part I of the list, and two firm names were approved for inclusion in Part II of the list. The remaining four applications which were for admission to Part II of the list were unsuccessful. These applications were accordingly treated as applications for exemption under Rule 16 of the Authorized Auditors List (Admission) Rules, 1953, so that the applicants would be enabled to sit for the Board's examination and so qualify themselves for admission to Part II of the list under Rule 9.
57. Five further applications to sit for the examination for admission to Part II of the list were received and approved by the Board.
58. The Syllabus, List of text-books, and Rules governing the conduct of the examinations for admission to Part II of the list were prepared by the Examination Sub-Committee and approved by the Board.
59. The first examination for applicants for admission to Part II of the list was held on 28th October, and the 11th and 12th November, 1953. The examination was divided into two sections, oral and written, and was conducted by the Examina- tion Sub-Committee. Seven candidates presented themselves for the oral examination, but three only were successful. Under Rule 13 of the Authorized Auditors List (Admission) Rules, 1953, no candidate may sit for the written examination until he has first passed the oral examination, and accordingly only the three successful candidates were eligible to proceed to the written portion of the examination. However, none of these three candidates were successful at the written Examination.
