the year including Chi Fu Fa Yuen, Cho Yui Chuen, Tsuen Wan Town Lot 236 and Taikoo Valley each of which will provide upon completion between 2,000 and 4,000 flats. DANGEROUS BUILDINGS DIVISION

5.14

Chief Building Surveyor: P.H. HAYWARD, A.R.I.C.S. (Acting)

The number of closures and demolitions of prewar buildings continued to decrease in consequence of the diminishing number of such buildings remaining as a result of the action of this division and the redevelopment of sites occupied by prewar buildings. The periodic examination of prewar buildings continues on a fairly regular basis.

5.15

No planned surveys or drainage repairs were undertaken because of the continuing staff shortage.

5.16

The condition of early post-war reinforced concrete buildings has been of increasing concern.

5.17

Action continued to be taken on problems revealed by the consultants' report on hillside stability. This has become an expanding diversity of the Division's activities.

5.18

A Rainstorm in August 1976 caused a number of major landslips on the Island and required the temporary closure of eleven buildings as an emergency measure. Large scale slope stabilisation work is still in progress on two of the sites.

5.19

The Division served 30 Redevelopment Notices and 20 Redevelopment Orders under the Demolished Buildings (Redevelopment of Sites) Ordinance and advised the Registrar General on the granting of extensions of the periods allowed for compliance with Orders previously issued.

WORKS DIVISION

5.20

Chief Building Surveyor: C.G. HOLGATE, A.R.I.C.S. (Acting)

The principal role of the Works Division is the carrying out of works on behalf of owners of buildings who fail to comply with Statutory Notices served under the Buildings Ordinance. These works included the demolition or repair of dangerous buildings, reinstatement of defective drainage and the removal of unauthorised building works (in some cases in large multi-storey buildings with multiple ownership) in the urban areas and
