WONG Yin-chow, Clerk of Works I 20 years service

C. Bramwell, Principal Government Architect 19 years service

Eight professional officers did not renew their contracts and left the service to return to the United Kingdom, whilst ten professional officers renewed their contracts for a further tour of duty.

Nine assistant professional officers joined the staff during the year and nine local assistant professional officers were promoted to full professional rank. Seven expatriate professional officers on agreement were recruited. Two technical officers were promoted to assistant professional ranks.

Staff strength continues to be well below establishment at all levels from Professional to Technical. The shortage of site supervisory staff gives rise to particular concern.

Training

4.103 Under the 'Departmental Programme for training of Government Officers' Scheme one Structural Engineer was sent to attend a 1-year M.Sc. course in the application of computing at the Polytechnic of North London, U.K. and two Building services Engineers were sent on attachment to the U.K. and U.S.A.
