Also commenced during the year was the space-frame roof structure for the Indoor Stadium at Hung Hom. A unique feature of this project is that the main structure of the building will be constructed after the roof structure has been hoisted into place. When completed this building will have seating accommodation for 15,000 spectators and will be equipped to allow an assortment of uses ranging from sporting events to exhibitions and pageants.

As the year ended, piling work was commenced on a multi-purpose auditorium in Tsuen Wan. This building, when completed, will contain a 1,500 seat auditorium and an exhibition area. It is expected to become the cultural focal point in Tsuen Wan new town.

Construction work was in progress on a sports ground in Kwai Chung, recreation grounds in Tsuen Wan and Cheung Chau and playgrounds in Tsuen Wan and Kwai Chung.

By the end of the year, as part of the new Defence Costs (Works) Agreement, the reprovisioning work to allow the relinquishment of Victoria Barracks and R.A.F. Kai Tak was under way. This included a new Headquarters British Forces building at H.M.S. Tamar and R.A.F. administration and supply buildings, hangar and quarters at Sek Kong.

Nine blocks of army quarters at Sek Kong Village were completed, providing domestic accommodation for three married officers and twenty-four married soldiers while an additional sixty-three units in three blocks for married officers and fifty-one units in eleven blocks for married soldiers were in varying stages of construction.

As the year ended, construction of the Gurkha High School at Malaya Lines was nearing completion. Plans for 112 Gurkha Married Soldiers Quarters were approved and working drawings for them were at an advanced stage.
