DESIGN AND PROJECTS DIVISION
Chief Electrical and Mechanical Engineer:
W.J. HAMPTON, C.Eng., M.I.E.E.
This Division is responsible for all new projects, both Electrical and Mechanical, which are undertaken on behalf of client Departments and the various Offices of the Public Works Department. In addition to acting as consultants, the duties of the Division include the investigation, design, preparation of specifications, drawings, indents and contract documents for, as well as the supervision of, projects under construction. The Division also administers the Lifts and Escalators (Safety) Ordinance.
New Projects Completed

During the year 37 projects were completed at an estimated total cost of $4 million. These included the installation of steam and fuel oil services, emergency generators, laundry equipment, pumps for fire-fighting, flushing and fresh water services, lighting and pumping equipment in pedestrian subways, air compressors, refuse incinerators, electrical hoists and electrical installations.
Design
8.07
Preliminary investigation, design work, preparation of specifications and detailed drawings for 25 projects were completed while similar work on 13 other projects was in hand at the end of the year.
