Tsuen Wan
232. The main seawall and the supporting earth bund behind it was virtually completed and an area of some 6 acres was reclaimed to form a site for the construction of six resettlement blocks to house the villagers displaced by the Shek Pik dam scheme. Reclamation also progressed further to the west in Zone 1 with landing facilities to serve this area.
Tong Mi Road Extension
233. The construction of the seawall, suspended in the previous year, was resumed and completed in March. Reclamation behind the seawall will provide for the future extension of Tong Mi Road.
Naval Dockyard
234. A contract for 1,000 feet of seawall, let in February, is part of the project for a public road through the old naval yard linking Connaught Road with Gloucester Road. Incorporated in this seawall is a caisson type pumphouse to supply cooling water for air-conditioning plant.
Cheung Chau Pier
PIERS AND BREAKWATERS
235. A seawall and a new ferry pier were completed and the latter, stretching 142 feet seawards with a width of 40 feet makes it the largest so far provided for outlying ferry services.
Kei Ling Ha Hoi Pier
236. After its completion in June this pier was used by the Hongkong and Yaumati Ferry Company for its regular service from Tai Po.
Sok Kwu Wan Pier (Lamma Island)
237. This pier was opened for public use in August.
Tsing Yi Pier
238. This pier was completed in November and opened soon afterwards for use by the public and as a scheduled stage in the Tsuen Wan service of the Hongkong and Yaumati Ferry Company.
Tung Chung Pier (Lantao Island)
239. After the letting of the contract for this pier in February, construction progressed well, the construction of the approach causeway and concrete caissons being ahead of schedule.
